The University Fire Marshal Office (UFMO) within EHS works collaboratively with the campus stakeholders, campus partners, and various programs within EHS to communicate appropriate training and practices that promotes and ensures that safety, compliance with applicable codes and standards are achieved.
We are looking for an energetic individual with a strong code enforcement, fire safety and teaching background who wants to contribute to the safety of the campus community through collaborative compliance initiatives. The primary function of the position is to assist the University Fire Marshal (UFM) to manage compliance programs related to fire, life safety and emergency preparedness. They will be asked to conduct and participate in site inspections and safety assessments and complete, submit and file appropriate paperwork for compliance with NYS Part 500 of Title 19 NYCRR and Cleary Act Annual Fire Safety Report. With general supervision from the University Fire Marshal (UFM), the Assistant University Fire Marshal-Fire Compliance Specialist will assist the UFM with daily duties, collaborate with the UFMO to ensure Campus Events are conducted in a safe manner including review and approval of campus event requests received via the University 25-Livesystem. This includes review of event set up, egress evaluation, tents, use of equipment, and etc. This position will; serve as a university contact for inquiries and questions related to New York State code compliance including code research and interpretations; oversee, coordinate and conduct fire prevention, safety, CPR and First Aid, OSHA and other related safety training programs for faculty, staff and students; and provide training as requested for fire safety, fire detection and suppression systems, building fire safety and evacuation plans and assist as needed in safety planning for special events and public assembly gatherings. All programs under this position's function must be in a sustainable state of "in-control and capable" functionality.
