The Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience (OCWR) in Michigan Medicine is looking for a mental health counselor to play an important role in Michigan Medicine's commitment to the safety, health/well-being and fulfillment of all faculty and staff. You will provide confidential short-term, evidence-based mental health counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, debriefing and outreach services that promote the well-being of all faculty and staff of Michigan Medicine. You will report to the Director of OCWR.

Mental Health Counseling

• Provide short-term individual and group mental health counseling for Michigan Medicine faculty and staff and their immediate families, who present with a range of mental health and psychological concerns related to personal and professional well-being.
• Perform a broad range of clinical services using evidence-based therapeutic methods for resolution of psychological and work concerns, using assessment, conceptualization, and intervention.
• Remain knowledgeable of current research and interventions to support health care professionals' well-being, including factors associated with burnout, trauma, and stress in an academic health care environment.
• Provide trauma-informed practices that support well-being and a culture of safety.
• Provide mitigating interventions when critical incidents affect faculty, physicians, house officers, fellows and staff by providing immediate crisis management, follow-up, and post-incident services.

Outreach and Consultation

• Develop connections and cooperative relationships for referral (internal and external), coordination of care and case management.
• Identify educational needs, develop and deliver workshops, presentations and psycho-educational groups on subjects such as mental health in the workplace, resilience, grief/loss, and compassion practices.
• Provide preventive consultation and outreach services to faculty and staff on mental health, quality of life and well-being to help create positive cultures within the work environment.
• Provide consultation to leaders addressing emergent and urgent risks and make recommendations for risk reduction, case management, referrals, and follow-up.

• Masters Degree or Ph.D./Psy.D. in a relevant social or behavioral science discipline (e.g. Counseling, Psychology, Social Work). 
• Licensed for independent practice in the State of Michigan, or able to obtain license for independent practice in Michigan within 3 months of hire.
• 2 or more years of experience with skills in clinical mental health counseling. You must demonstrate relevant experience as a practicing mental health professional.
• Demonstrated multicultural knowledge, competency, and experience working with diverse communities.
• Experience with a wide spectrum of evidence-based clinical work in mental health assessment, conceptualization, and crisis management.
• Proficiency in use of telehealth services.
