FUELS ANALYST III

The Fuels Analyst III is responsible to partner with the Fuels Portfolio Manager in the management of coal, natural gas, oil, environmental reagents, and their associated transportation needed for DPC’s generation assets.  In this position, the analyst will work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to meet DPC’s mission to provide cost effective electricity.  

The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.    Contract Administration:  Maintain systems to document the compliance of contractual requirements of coal, natural gas, oil, environmental reagents, and transportation contracts.  Identify any deviation for contractual terms that may pose various risks to DPC.

2 .   Invoice Review and Approval:  Review and approve coal, natural gas, oil, environmental reagents, and transportation invoices to ensure accurate and timely payment.  Coordinate Month End processes with the accounting department to ensure accurate results and reporting.

3.    Fuel Inventory Forecasting and Fuel Analysis:  Work with various stakeholders to develop short-term inventory forecasts of various fuel commodities.  Monitor deliveries, consumption, and inventory levels to ensure that required quantities are maintained.

4.    Budget and Financial Forecast:  Assist in the development of the fuel’s annual budget and track actual to budgeted costs for benchmarking purposes.  Assist in the development of fuels inputs and scenario analysis for DPC’s annual Financial Forecast process.  

5.    Fuel Cost Development:  Capture relevant fuel costs and market data needed to inform DPC’s generation offers into the MISO market.  Work with Power Marketing to ensure costs are accurate incorporated into necessary software processes.   

6.    Fuel Analysis:  Perform routine or ad hoc analysis to provide deeper insights on coal, natural gas, oil, environmental reagents, or transportation.  In addition, develop reports as applicable which provide deeper insight.  

7.    Perform other duties as assigned.
 

NATURE AND EXTENT OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Accuracy, diligence and attention to detail are vital in this role to serve as critical financial controls for the organization.  Daily optimization of rail, coal, and natural gas logistics can also significantly contribute to DPC financial position. 

Your Experience and Expertise:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:  A four-year degree in accounting, finance, or supply chain, plus a minimum of five (5) years’ experience, preferably in an electric utility and/or procurement related area.  Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered or a candidate with the desire to develop expertise as a Fuels Analyst. 

Fuels Analyst III is preferred but will consider the right candidate for Fuels Analyst II.

Skills:  Must possess strong skills in Excel and the ability to work across multiple software platforms. Capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Good communication skills, verbal and written.  Proficient at documentation, record keeping, and the ability to organize.  Must have strong analytical skills to interpret and report large volumes of data.

Licenses and Certifications:  Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands: Usually works in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal physical exertion.  Sitting, walking, reaching/stretching and lifting (up to 20 pounds).  Uses hearing, near vision and fingering for computers, word processing, calculators, or other office machines.  Uses telephone to external callers.  May screen calls for Manager.

Environmental Demands:  Works indoors.

Other Job Characteristics:  Ability to maintain confidentiality of information in normal performance of job duties.  Ability to work under pressure and endure interruptions.  Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people.  Must be team oriented.  Occasional field work is required at sites.  Frequent interaction with management personnel of coal companies, railroads, and the ability to provide strong internal support for data management, reporting, and business controls.
