The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a living laboratory where we investigate the relationship between computer technology, human activity, and society. Founded in 1993, the HCII is a place where we work to understand and create technology that harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. We research how people work, play, and communicate within groups, organizations, and social structures, then we design, create, and evaluate technologies and tools to support human and social activities.

We are seeking to hire a Research Administrator to join our team! In this role, you will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of sponsored research and internal accounts awarded to faculty members within the department. You will support the operations of the department, primarily in the areas of finance and accounting, and will serve as a resource and advisor to faculty and staff on matters of policy and administration.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Conducts research proposal process (pre-award). Advises faculty on proposal requirements and deadline planning. Develops proposal budgets. Prepares government forms and contributes administrative content to electronic and paper applications. Obtains necessary approvals and signatures. Maintains SPARCS proposal database. Works closely with Office of Sponsored Projects to ensure pre-award compliance. Sets up new accounts upon award.
• Provides general support of faculty sponsored accounts (post-award). Works closely with Sponsored Projects Accounting to ensure compliance. Reviews and approves purchase orders, expense reimbursements, procurement card and other account transactions. Arranges for expense redistributions and other transactions in Oracle system. Provides support and advice on accounting and auditing issues to faculty and staff.
• Creates faculty funding profiles which show past, current, and pending awards for use in research proposals and department summaries.
• Handles the closeout (audit) of sponsored research accounts, such as finalizing transactions, dollar balancing and financial reporting. Ensures that technical reporting, intellectual property, equipment title, and third-party agreements are complete. Works with multiple internal and external parties. Ensures that department spending of federal and other funds complies with regulations at closeout.
• Coordinates financial analysis and reporting for faculty covering sponsored and internal accounts according to review cycle (monthly, quarterly, annually). Compiles budgets and budget forecasts on these accounts. Recommends spending variations to meet financial constraints.
• Handles subcontract, consultant and independent contractor arrangements pertaining to sponsored projects.
• Supervises labor assignments and supports certification of labor effort with documentation. Coordinates labor reallocations.
• Participates in selected SCS, University committees, and department meetings. Disseminates information as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3-5 years of experience in Sponsored Research Administration and Accounting required.
• CRA preferred.
• Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated.
