Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions that enable OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. The Network Architecture & Engineering units provide for analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, security, and optimization of OHSU local and wide area (LAN/WAN) wired and wireless networks, data center networks, Unified Communications & related applications as well as associated infrastructure. The Telecom Unified Communications Engineering staff are focused on OHSU's IP based Unified Communications tools and related infrastructure and provide a full service of analysis, design, engineering support, implementation, maintenance, security, and optimization inclusive of associated network and applications infrastructure.

Function/Duties of Position

The Systems Analyst/Engineer is a Sr. Engineering position and must possess and continue to develop newer IP and software based telecommunications skills as well as working knowledge of legacy telecom tools & processes. The successful employee will be working on IP Telephony, contact centers, voicemail, converged applications, virtual machines, and python scripting in addition to legacy hardware, business practices, and built environments. This position will need a working understanding of Wide Area Network Services, Network Security, WiFi, Low Voltage, Cable Management, Data Center Network Operations, Project Management, and related disciplines needed to deliver communications services to end customers. This position also provides for problem analysis, communications and technical feedback between customers, field support, and other ITG work units, providing (Tier III) support and technical escalation for design and problem resolution.

This position is distinguished by a hybrid combination of technology roles that include Systems Analyst, Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, and Project Manager. These are multi-tasking, broadly based, positions that require a unique combination of analytic, engineering, project management, and customer service skills to provide ITG systems support across all OHSU healthcare, academic and research missions. Incumbents are proficient in troubleshooting and root cause analysis using the scientific method of refining a problem statement, and queuing up a series of increasingly specific tests to isolate the problem. Necessarily, this requires specialized knowledge for the equipment and services for which the analyst/engineer is directly responsible. In addition, expert broad based knowledge is used to troubleshoot integrated applications suites, services running across hybrid network architectures, virtualized servers or desktops, load balanced web farms, firewalled VPNS, etc.

In this context, the Systems Analyst/Engineer is also distinguished by a broad spectrum and high degree of technical skills/experience, and the ability to effectively multi-task across job roles and across multiple technology platforms. Lastly, this position is distinguished by a requirement to rapidly and dynamically respond to a continuously changing technology environment.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or related field AND three years of progressively responsible IT related experience leading to proven proficiency and subject matter expertise in the areas outlined within the class specification; OR

Equivalent alternative educational experience that includes approved coursework, professional certification as outlined below, vendor training, AND seven years of documented professional experience leading to proven proficiency and subject matter expertise in the areas outline within the class specification; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expereince:

• 3 years working with Cisco systems IP telephony: call manager, voicemail, contact center, voice recording, E911 services, belt paging and UC gateways.
• Experience in designing, implementing and supporting new communications infrastructure
• Experience using a structured project management process to manage projects
• Experience in supporting mission critical systems in 24x7 multiple production environments
• Experience with troubleshooting IP protocols.
• Service failure analysis and troubleshooting
• Application installation and configuration
• Understanding of Microsoft Networks at the operating system level, file/directory security, and user account level

Enterprise experience with systems administration, scripting
