Department: Kellogg Faculty Affairs The Director of Faculty Affairs is responsible for developing and delivering best practices and standard operating procedures related to the employment lifecycle for all academic professionals. The role is also responsible for the effective operations of the Faculty Affairs team within the Academic Operations unit. This position is held accountable to a school-level goal to recruit, retain, and develop world-leading faculty. The position reports to and partners closely with the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Research in faculty recruiting, promotion and tenure, and faculty employment affairs, and the Senior Associate Dean of Curriculum & Teaching in clinical and adjunct recruitment and hiring. The role regularly supports the dean's office requests and oversees all institutional data and reporting related to the faculty employment lifecycle. Specific Responsibilities: � Evaluation and Administrative Management: Evaluates effectiveness to ensure seamless communication between faculty and related service areas in the dean's office and NU. Serves as the key representative for all faculty employment processes and ensures effective integration and alignment between internal departments. Supervises, motivates, and develops team members to promote effective working relationships and professional growth. Responds to staff needs and provides tools needed for the successful operations of the department. Mediates issues and provides support and guidance to faculty and staff. Manages staff workload and faculty expectations. Responsible for developing and maintaining best practices and financial oversight for all assigned budgets supporting faculty and the dean's office objectives, as evidenced through measurable results and regular reporting. � Operational Excellence: Facilitate recruiting, onboarding, and integration of faculty, academic visitors, and researchers. Serve as senior advisor in guiding and supporting all faculty review and promotion-related activities. Advance immigration competencies in faculty global relocation and international employment. Within the compliance and regulatory landscape of the U.S. and of Northwestern University, create ways by which global co-authors and research associates can collaborate with Kellogg faculty remotely. � Vision and Strategy: Works with senior associate deans to define, execute and deliver on the strategic direction and mission of all aspects of faculty affairs. Conducts research and benchmarks trends to ensure service levels run efficiently. Develops and implements best practices to ensure the school's goals are achieved for hiring, recruiting, promotion and general support of all faculty. � Relationship Management: Delivers a variety of expected services, including hiring, recruiting, promotion, visa processing, financial and legal transactions in support of faculty employment. Works to foster strong collaboration with the Senior Associate Deans as their staff will be expected to execute policy and procedure as set forth by the deans' office. The director will also be expected to influence without direct authority as many of the policies they support will require execution by staff members not in their direct reporting organization, faculty who are permanent members of Kellogg, those who are visiting, and those with temporary appointments. � Develops and nurtures effective relationships with entities across the University, especially those in the Provost's office, Office of General Counsel, University HR/Payroll, and areas of faculty affairs in other schools across the University. � Leads and manages efforts to create a collaborative and diverse environment where optimal participant interaction is achieved. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Miscellaneous Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: � Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. � 5-10 years experience in management; operations and direct supervision. Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) � A high degree of sensitivity and tact in effectively working with students, faculty, and staff. � Proven skills in providing leadership from multiple perspectives (technical, relationship management, and communications). � Strong customer service skills and ability to build and foster strong relationships. Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and to develop, cultivate, and manage relationships across a complex organization. � Must demonstrate sound judgment and diplomatic skills and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and oral). � Supportive management style with a commitment to motivating and developing team members. � Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and to develop, cultivate, and manage relationships across a complex organization Preferred Qualifications: � Management and faculty support experience within higher education. Target hiring range for this position will be between $112,000 - $125,000 per year or per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
