1. Implements strategies for Public Relations efforts. 2. Contributes in developing and implementing public relations and information programs. 3. Suggests methods on how to present information to the media and community. 4. Writes and edits information to best promote the University's interests and which take into account community relations. 5. Translates technical language to produce communications which represent the University's best interest. 6. Decides on style, format, and tone of written piece. 7. Generates promotional material for wide variety of schools, departments, and programs. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Skill/ability 1: Strategic thinking and planning skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once. Self-starter; ability to meet deadlines working independently. Required Skill/ability 2: Excellent organizational and communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Public relations skills. Required Skill/ability 3: Translate information about science and the environment into materials that connote the serious and important findings of research yet are easily understood by public and professional audiences. Required Skill/ability 4: Knowledge of alternative and innovative communications technologies (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and applications in a business environment. Required Skill/ability 5: Strong computer skills; experience in PowerPoint and in database, web, publishing, and photoshop/graphic software. Knowledge of journalism writing principles and techniques. Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Master's degree in Journalism; experience in scientific writing.
