The Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the senior-most technology officer at UC Berkeley and is responsible for providing the strategic vision for Information Technology (IT) campus-wide through the oversight of Berkeley IT (bIT) and the collaborative leadership of partner IT organizations in other divisions and schools. Reporting jointly to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) and the Vice Chancellor for Administration (VCA) at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), the CIO advises campus leadership on IT matters and works with them in shaping UC Berkeley's strategy around IT. The CIO directly oversees Berkeley IT (bIT), which consists of over 300 staff in seven units: Business Operations (for bIT), Campus Applications & Data, Campus IT Experience (including Intercollegiate Athletics IT and Student Affairs IT), Campus IT Infrastructure, Information Security Office, People, Performance, and Culture (for bIT), and Strategy and Partnerships (including facilitating a Governance structure), and manages an operating budget of approximately $85 million (including about $35 million of recharge revenue). Position Overview Building IT workforce and organizational capability and creating a structure and culture that is inclusive and actively embraces diversity and equity that enables our IT professionals to do their best work is a priority for the CIO and for UC Berkeley. Providing opportunities for individuals to learn and grow in their careers is essential to mastering current responsibilities and preparing for growth and changes in the work environment. Reporting to the CIO, the Executive Director leads the bIT enterprise IT People, Performance, and Culture unit and provides strategic oversight of the HR, DEIBJA and IT workforce development functions in bIT through a team of 3 employees. This role also has responsibility for the campus-wide effort to build and carry out an IT workforce strategy and program for the approximately 850 IT staff across 60+ campus departments. bIT constitutes about a third of the overall campus workforce. In the role as our primary workforce development leader they will directly (1) delineate the skills and capabilities needed for the Berkeley IT workforce in the next 5 years based on inputs from departmental priorities, and market trends; (2) objectively assess the current skills and capabilities of the IT workforce to identify needs and gaps; (3) develop strategies to attract, retain, train, develop, and support the IT workforce; (4) organize and carry out key projects to attract, retain, and develop Berkeley IT employees; and (5) partner with One IT, Central HR, and campus Diversity and Inclusion groups and programs to support those initiatives as appropriate. Salary & Benefits Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $190,000.00 - $205,000.00.
