Assistant Grants Manager US-NJ-Princeton Job ID: 2023-17765 Type: Part-Time # of Openings: 1 Princeton University Overview Reporting to the Associate Director of the Office of Population Research (OPR), the Assistant Grants Manager will perform the following duties: grant proposal preparation (including budget preparation) for assigned faculty members affiliated with OPR; grants management of assigned active OPR sponsored research; act as back-up to the Associate Director on the labor accounting system; invoice processing for subcontracts and grant-related travel; Sponsor reporting for assigned OPR sponsored research; filing and maintenance of human subjects protocols with the University; processing of service, data and consultant agreements as needed on grants; budget analysis and budget projections; coordination of all financial duties associated with sponsored research; and other duties associated with program sponsored research as assigned.
This is a part-time, 12-month term position. Responsibilities Pre-award Grant Administration - prepare budgets and forms (current and pending, budget justification, etc.), assemble, and review all required proposal documents and submit through ERA and appropriate sponsor systems based on discussion with faculty and program announcement requirements.
Post-award Grant Administration â“ regular monitoring of expenditures on active projects and providing monthly forecasting and expenditure reports to faculty; approve invoices, purchase orders, travel vouchers, reimbursements and credit card activities; enter and adjust salary allocations according to grant budgets; process expense adjustments via journals and provide justification as required; process grant reports, including close out materials; coordinate collaborative projects and subawards; work collaboratively with ORPA on no cost extensions, new awards, prior approvals, agreements, and subawards.
Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of the faculty memberâ™s research portfolio and providing thoughtful guidance to principal investigators as they navigate the use of research resources.
Providing guidance on University and Sponsor policies and processes regarding grant and financial management.
Analyzing and ensuring spending and justifications are following the appropriate regulations and policies.
Maintaining a firm understanding of academic research, government funding agency practices, compliance and university and departmental policies, as well as other grant related duties as assigned. Qualifications Successful candidate is an analytical expert with a strong accounting/financial/grants management background. Must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
Additionally, the position requires: excellent organizational skills with the ability to work proactively on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; a results and goal-oriented mindset, while exercising independent judgment to plan and prioritize a diverse workload; the ability to triage and problem solve; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels; a high degree of personal integrity with uncompromising standards; solid decision-making skills; and flexibility and diplomacy. A comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, experience with electronic proposal submission systems and the ability to learn new software packages required. Familiarity with the university systems and other financial systems desired. Familiarity with Human Subjects protocols and university policies preferred. Prior experience working in a research environment in higher education or related field also preferred.
