Launched in 2008, OrchKids provides children educational resources and fosters social change through the power of music in some of Baltimore’s under-resourced communities.

JOB SUMMARY
Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra (BSYO) Manager is responsible for all logistical and operational aspects of the three orchestras of the BSYO, including weekly Sunday rehearsals, orchestra performances, run-out and other special events, annual concerto competition, annual auditions, staff, volunteers, recruitment, and tracking of finances. Reporting to the Director of Education and Community Engagement and working closely with the BSYO Artistic Advisor and BSYO conductors, this position is an integral part of the BSO Education and Community Engagement team. Regular weekend work on Sundays is required during the BSYO season and some evening work may be required for special projects.

This position requires a high-level ability to organize and work independently, multi-task, accuracy and attention to detail, knowledge of instrumental music, and excellent customer relations skills. This position also has logistical and operations responsibilities in the education department relating to website, Tessitura, and communications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and administer music performances, weekly rehearsals, and other events, working closely with BSO Director of Education and Community Engagement, BSYO artistic staff, BSO Manager of Education and Community Engagement, BSYO operations assistant, and volunteers
• Serve as a point of contact for the public and disseminate general information about the BSYO performances, and auditions, via email, WordFly, and print materials
• Supervise BSYO Operations Assistant, interns and work-study students when available, and a core volunteer base of approximately 50 parents
• Oversee and handle recruitment activities for BSYO, enrollment of students, and collection and tracking of tuition payments
• Manage BSYO website and posting of events through social media
• Draft content for brochures, programs, eblasts, and other print materials, working closely with BSO Marketing Department for final production and distribution

• Communicate essential information to members and families, including weekly announcements and event logistics
• Contract and coordinate with guest musicians, chamber coaches, and other guest clinicians
• Process orders for music and supplies, handle invoices and agreements, and distribute, print and bind music

• Assist with other projects as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

• Bachelor’s degree with background in music and/or arts administration, with at least 3 years of experience working in the arts
• Substantial knowledge and ability in areas relating to computer literacy, using standard software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, WordFly
• Ability to learn other software programs as needed
• Experience with and proficient use of Tessitura software a plus
• Strong writing and communication skills, including with social media
• Excellent customer relations skills; experience working with parents and professional musicians
• Must demonstrate initiative and strong problem resolution, and be able to participate successfully in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Demonstrated superior organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines
• Proven ability to handle budgets and related financial processes.
