About the DepartmentThe Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering currently has 45 faculty members and an enrollment of about 1300 undergraduate and 270 graduate students. The Department offers ABET accredited B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering; M.S., Master of Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Materials Science and Engineering. Also, the B.S. and the M. Eng degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering are offered. The Department has research focus areas in Structural Dynamics, Advanced Manufacturing, Thermal-Fluids Science, Applied and Computational Mechanics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science and Industrial & Systems Engineering. Candidates in two broad areas in mechanical engineering will be considered: (1) Mechanics - including, but not limited to, computational mechanics, theoretical and applied mechanics, modeling of materials behaviors such as fracture, fatigue, and plasticity, biomechanics, mechanics of soft systems, and machine learning and other data-driven approaches. (2) Energy & Sustainability – including, but not limited to, renewable energy, energy-water nexus, energy conversion and storage, battery materials and processes, carbon capture, hydrogen technology, fuel cells, and sustainable manufacturing. Rank, tenure, salary, and startup funding will be commensurate with credentials. Essential Functions
