Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position of LMS and Learning Design Specialist will be instrumental in creating an engaging and effective learning experience for students and faculty members through the utilization of a Learning Management System (LMS). You will collaborate closely with instructors, Associate Deans, LMS Administrator and the Dean of Transfer Programs and Online Learning to analyze learning needs, develop learning objectives, and assist the instructor with the alignment of the course outcomes and objectives with the college's curriculum and educational goals, which includes addressing equity gaps among underserved student populations. Leveraging your knowledge of pedagogy, you will assist/guide/train faculty on how to create interactive and multimedia-rich learning content to create engaging courses for students. You will also be responsible for integrating emerging technologies and tools within the LMS, such as virtual classrooms, course development tools, discussion forums, and collaborative platforms, to enhance the online learning experience. Furthermore, this position will play a pivotal role in project management, ensuring timely delivery of learning materials, evaluating the effectiveness of learning interventions, and providing ongoing support (through the eLearning Ticketing System) and training to faculty and students in effectively utilizing the LMS. The position will be primary backup to the LMS Administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Learning Design Specialist and Pedagogy Support:
  • Develops and maintains documentation on course development tools for enhanced teaching.
  • Provides training to faculty and staff in applying best practices related to course design and accessibility.
  • Consults with faculty and staff on course development strategies and learning objectives.
  • Assists the instructor on practical course development using instructional tool technologies for best practices and inclusive teaching.
  • Support faculty who teach in all formats – including face-to-face, blended, online, and hybrid flexible modalities.
  • Designs and produces, collaboratively with the other eLearning staff, learning materials in a variety of formats.
  • Aids faculty in educational technology tools and methods, use of instructional software, and effective uses of multimedia, related to their courses.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.
  • Provide support for inclusive teaching programming.
  • Research alternative teaching practices and assessment strategies and collaborate with faculty and the LMS Administrator on tools necessary to achieve goals set by faculty that focus on pedagogical practices.
  • Collaborates with the LMS Administrator on implementation of tools necessary for faculty and staff success.
  • Assists faculty in setting goals that focus on updating pedagogical practices using evidence based tools.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies, and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.


LMS:
  • Provide Help Desk technical support (LMS navigation and operation support, online course access and support, instructor communication support, and best-effort individual computer support).
  • Provides back-up support to the LMS Administrator when that person is gone for an extended period or during peak times, such as the start of a semester.
  • Provides primary support for Delta College students related to their LMS course site(s).
  • Develop best practices, strategic initiatives, and key performance indicators collaboratively with the LMS Administrator and College administration to determine the strategic plan of eLearning at Delta College.
  • Research and recommend new software and potential upgrades to existing eLearning technologies.

Other Duties:
  • Participates in the planning for the continued improvement of the eLearning Office.
  • Remain current with and follow all federal and state regulations relating to eLearning, LMS Administration, and related topics
  • Engage with other colleges as an active member of the Michigan Colleges Online (MCO), Educational Technology Organization of Michigan (ETOM), Instructional Technology Council (ITC), and Online Learning Consortium (OLC) and other organizations related to the job description.
  • Hold membership on committees, boards, taskforce, or other positions related to job duties, externally, as appropriate, with the approval of Director of eLearning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and skills. Major(s) required: Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Education or related
  • Instructional experience (2+ years preferred

Additional Experiences Considered:

  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance agency requirements including UDL, ADA, Section 508 compliance, FERPA, and other applicable laws related to digital accessibility.
