Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Technology and Projects, the Assistant Director will oversee the day-to-day operation of a team of Project Managers who assist with the development and implementation of technology-based security solutions for departments on the Morningside, CUMC, Manhattanville campuses, and other Columbia owned/operated buildings in the NY metro area.

Responsibilities

• The incumbent will work with the Executive Director, Technology and Projects and the Director of Technology, to formulate standards that will ensure best practices to meet the security needs of all University campuses and properties.

• The Assistant Director of Technology Projects will hold high-level meetings with faculty and senior executives of the University in design/development meetings to assess their security needs and effectively communicate the proposed risk-oriented, cost-effective solutions.

• The Assistant Director will be responsible for the oversight of our centralized project management database and will ensure the accuracy of all facets of a project, including assessment, installation, commissioning, and billing, are maintained up to date.

• The incumbent will work with the Physical Security Manager to ensure that all installations are coordinated properly and meet the standards set by the Executive Director.

• The Assistant Director will work with outside vendors to oversee their installations and processes, including the creation of purchase orders and billing.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required. A minimum of four to six years experience in assessing security risk and developing appropriate cost-effective electronic security solutions.

• In-depth knowledge of electronic/physical security solutions including, but not limited to electronic locking hardware, large enterprise access control systems, CCTV, and networked digital CCTV recording systems essential. Supervisory experience in University Public Safety Department, as well as, experience managing multiple large-scale security projects.  

• Computer proficiency using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management software is required.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills are extremely important. Candidate should have excellent customer service, follow-up skills, and experience working with internal and external clients.

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience as well as experience managing multiple large scale security projects is desired.
• Proficiency in using AutoCAD systems and interpreting architectural drawings is strongly desired.
• Familiarity with non-profit / higher education accounting and business processes is helpful.
