Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence is looking for a Registered Nurse Director of Baystate Children’s Hospital. Director of Baystate Children’s Hospital – Position Priorities The Director of Baystate Children’s Hospital is accountable for the effective management and administrative oversight of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Procedure Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Nursery, Children and Adolescents, and Child Life Specialists. The Pediatric Flex Team reports to this role directly. This position will work closely with other leadership throughout the organization and must have a strong ability to work as a team member and communicate effectively at all levels throughout the organization to progress the successful completion of the short- and long-term objectives of Baystate Health. Business and Human Resource Management: Develops budgets for assigned areas based on the changing needs of the patient populations and clinical programming. Communicates with unit managers to understand and forecast all resource requirements. Identifies initiatives, trends, and external and internal demands or changes that may affect resource utilization. Identifies strategies to address changes/demands. Leadership: Sets the tone and agenda for the areas supervised. Understands patient populations served and ensures that optimal resources are provided to deliver high quality, effective and efficient patient care. Identifies and works to correct system issues that interfere with the achievement of patient, unit, departmental and institutional goals. Supports the ongoing development of unit leadership through coaching, mentoring and role modeling. Initiates and manages change, ensuring appropriate support and resources to staff. Seeks opportunities to build working alliances with other professional groups. Demonstrates skill to identify and manage conflict. Sets expectations for professional behavior and open communication. Strategic Planning: Provides leadership and collaboration in setting the direction of the clinical areas and is responsive to changing internal and external factors. Utilizes knowledge of federal, state, hospital accreditation agencies standards, policies, and procedures. Develops goals and action plans to respond to external and internal forces that effect the delivery of patient care. In collaboration with the Director, PCS Finance and Operations, establishes and manages the departmental budgets within identified benchmarks. Variance to budget reporting will be completed on an organizational set timeline. Clinical Practice: Monitors and ensures that the clinical staff teams provide excellent patient care. Executes strategic goals, objectives, into operations and conducts ongoing monitoring and learning to continuously improve. In collaboration with organizational leaders, develops and implements clinical processes that achieve quality and safety goals on the inpatient nursing units and are consistent with service line strategic plan. Integrates the Baystate Children’s Hospital Division philosophy and Baystate Health values into all practices and programs. Evaluates unit leader’s metrics (clinical, budgetary, patient experience) to determine if current standards are met. Works to ensure excellence in patient care and customer service through interactions with patients, families, customers, core staff and department managers. Ensures required yearly competencies and other safety checks of all staff. Attends appropriate management and educational forums. Size and Scope:
