Patient Services Duties: Schedule patients for prosthodontic appointments with residents, hygienists, and faculty, generally over the phone and occasionally in person at clinic, ensuring accuracy of necessary registration, insurance coverage, and demographic information. Follow up communications on canceled appointments, reschedules and appointment confirmations. Manages a high volume of telephone inquiries and answers questions about patient balances and accounts. Provides instructions to facilitate patient payments in order for service to be provided and for any outstanding balances. Triages calls to the appropriate provider or support staff within Prosthodontics via the electronic health record, email messaging or phone. Medical Prior Authorizations / Dental Insurance Pre-Authorizations Responsibilities: Verify patient insurance coverage with all carriers and submit for pre authorization. Completes and scans all patient information including heath history, implant surgery forms, and medications. Check-in patients requiring prosthodontic specific scenarios not addressed at general check-in, to include clear communication of intricacies of financial and/or insurance factors and facilitate payments prior to the appointment. Assist students and faculty with questions related to scheduling and authorizations as well as forms and documentation, including M-Caid forms, and serve as a liaison between students and staff. Dental Assistant Duties: Seat and prepare patients for treatment by positioning the patient to best utilize the concept of four handed dentistry while assisting dentist in preventing, examining, charting and treating diseases of the teeth and oral region to include the administration of anesthetics, set-up, maintain and anticipate the dentists needs for each procedure. Prepare and maintain the dental chair, unit and light. Inspect dental instruments for serviceability and prepare them for sterilization while following infection control guidelines. Protect patient from excessive exposure to ionizing radiation, exposes, mount bitewings, periapicals and panographic radiographs. Assist dentist during procedures, including implant surgeries. Manages the patient preoperatively and postoperatively while minimizing patient discomfort and anxiety. Prepares equipment and materials to measure and mix such commonly used permanent and non-permanent restorative materials such as cements, resins and alloys. Exposing patients for cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. Assist in training dental students and other assigned staff in the principles of dental assisting. Previous experience scheduling and checking in patients. A certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program. C.P.R. and radiography certification. Excellent communication skills, excellent attention to detail, excellent ability to multitask, excellent organizational skills, and excellent attendance record. Previous experience as dental assistant in a dental clinical setting. CDA and/or RDA certification.
