Organization: Office of Contracts MgmtJob Summary: JOB SUMMARYThe VUMC Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) makes it possible for VUMC personnel to prepare, submit and manage proposals and contracts for projects involving clinical research and training, grant-funded programs, and medical and professional services to external recipients. The OSP Business Systems and Reporting group includes two Enterprise scale applications which support the above functions, each having a team of developers/analysts. The Sr. PHP Application Developer position will join our PEER application team to implement new functions and enhance existing features. The developer will be responsible for the full programming stack including database design, PHP programming, and front-end development in CSS and JavaScript. As part of the team, the developer will work with stakeholders and other programmers to share ownership and responsibility for the PEER system and it's interfaces with other VUMC systems. The PEER application is continually evolving to incorporate more business functionality and provide greater utility, requiring flexible software architecture and the ability to rapidly refactor/modernize. Our goal is to produce software befitting of a leading medical institution - clean, maintainable, and efficient behind the scenes; responsive and intuitive to the end user. . Key Responsibilities* Develops secure, maintainable, performant, user-friendly software. * Designs systems that adhere to security and process compliance. * Works with stakeholders/internal customers to refine requirements, as well as to understand the benefit and use cases for the end users. * Collaborates with application teams across larger Office of Research systems domain on systems integrations and best practices. * Continually and proactively searches for opportunities to refactor existing code for maintainability and re-use. * Collaborates with cloud and DevOps engineers on application infrastructure, automation, deployment, and security. * Stays current with contemporary software engineering best practices. Technical Capabilities* At least 5 years experience developing complex web applications using PHP. * Demonstrated ability to implement OOP concepts in code. * Experience with Composer and Packagist PHP package management * Experience using PHP frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel, CodeIgniter, etc. * Working knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery. * Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS. * Experience in source control systems (preferably git), including branching strategies and resolving merge conflicts. * Experience with code review processes via pull/merge request reviews. * Experience with relational databases such as Oracle (preferred), MySQL, Postgres, etc. including database architecture and query optimization, and database migration scripts. * Experience with Doctrine ORM preferred. * Understanding of common web security topics such as authentication/authorization, XSS, SQL injection, etc. Our professional administrative functions include critical supporting roles in information technology and informatics, finance, administration, legal and community affairs, human resources, communications and marketing, development, facilities, and many more.
