MTC seeks an innovative General Manager with a background that has a strong mix of not-for--profit management experience as well as practice within the commercial theatre sector. The General Manager, working alongside the Executive Director, is one of the key leadership team members working across the entire organization. Responsibilities Include:

• Working with the Executive Director to manage a thriving not-for-profit organization and building a positive and inclusive work culture;
• Collaborating with Artistic, Production, Management and Finance departments to produce and support the life of innovative productions with leading authors, directors, creative teams, and stars;
• Working with the Executive Director and Finance Director to develop, manage, and oversee a $27 million dollar annual budget;
• Supervising all contractual relations, including labor, immigration, insurance, real estate, ADA and employment, to ensure best practices across 11 union and various non-union contracts;
• Directly supervising an Associate General Manager, two Company Managers, and a Theatre Manager;
• Administering all union agreements and relationships, and working in concert with Director of Production and Company Manager to supervise contract administration;
• Overseeing and facilitating communication, effective work practice, and care across all departments of the organization;
• Negotiating and managing relationships with commercial producers and other non-profit theatres. Maintaining strong relationships with service organizations, agents, vendors, general managers, and other theatre professionals;
• Evaluating ticket inventory and pricing and observing best customer service practice;
• Supporting the Development department on fundraising, special events, donor cultivation and governance;
• Supporting the Education department’s work with New York City public schools, long distance learning program and work with at-risk and count-involved youth;
• Interacting frequently with the Board of Directors, with a direct relationship to the Finance Committee, and interacting with MTC donors;
• Servings on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which is comprised of staff members representing union and non-union, senior staff, mid-career, and entry level staff. The committee examines EDI issues, with sub-committees mining best practices for areas such as recruitment, interviewing and onboarding, accessibility and inclusion.  

Significant prior experience as a General Manager, preferably in a major theatre production organization.  Union negotiation experience is required.  Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a highly-charged atmosphere.  Strong management skills, good judgment and absolute discretion and attention to detail are required.
