Position Title:Swine Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Specialist I/II - Northwest IowaJob Group:Professional & ScientificRequired Minimum Qualifications:Bachelorâs degreeSpecial Required QualificationsDrivers LicensePreferred Qualifications:Strong understanding of the swine industry in IowaBachelorâs degree in Ag related field Masterâs degree in Ag related field Experience creating and conducting presentations Job Description:The Iowa Pork Industry Center at Iowa State University is currently seeking a Swine Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Specialist I/II who will participate, facilitate and lead specific extension and outreach efforts to positively impact the Iowa swine industry. This position will require leadership and subject matter support at the regional, state, multi-state, national, and/or international level for networks and coalitions which lead to funding and/or programming opportunities. The incumbent will be expected to have a strong understanding of the swine industry and work closely with others in the Iowa Pork Industry Center to strengthen the centerâs efforts to enable a competitive advantage for Iowa pork producers by developing and promoting efficient pork production practices and technologies in Iowa to maintain and strengthen Iowa's global pork industry leadership. This position will serve and be based out of Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Emmet, Sioux, OâBrien, Clay, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Cherokee, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Woodbury, Ida, Sac, Calhoun, Carroll, Shelby, Audubon, Monona, and Crawford counties. The primary office location for this position will be a county extension office(one of the counties listed above) and the location will be dependent on the successful candidate and office availability. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader in the pork industry and expected to work effectively both individually and in team settings, have the ability to develop strong working relationships with Iowa State University faculty, staff and graduate students, and partner with pork producers and allied industry. Effective strategies for both the development and delivery of extension programming to impact the swine industry will be expected of the successful candidate. Leadership will be expected in partnering with faculty and extension staff in developing and delivering information to the pork industry will be expected, in addition to development of applications to secure grant funding to support new extension and outreach efforts. These could include, but are not limited to, providing specific expertise to influence decision makers for pork production systems, maintaining working relationships within the pork industry, utilizing innovative strategies to deliver information to the pork industry and allied partners. Iowa State University has over 50 faculty and staff in the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences associated with swine production and the state of Iowa has a thriving agricultural economy and is the number one pork producing state in the country. An ANR Extension Specialist will understand how to interpret research results and translate them into teaching information for various audiences. This position will engage in and lead interdisciplinary programming. This successful candidate will develop and assist in leading effective and innovative strategies to meet targeted under-served and under-represented audiences. This position will be filled at the Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Specialist I or II level.
