![]() OB/GYN Medical Assistant II (MED AST 2) Job Summary Medical Assistants provide non-licensed medical support to medical care providers in an outpatient setting. Incumbents room patents; set up equipment and instruments; independently perform, and/or assist providers with performing, exams and procedures, including administering injections; with proper provider authorization, provide instructions, training and advice to patients; call in prescriptions; clean and calibrate equipment; clean and stock exam rooms; and provide proper documentation in patient chart. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis. Positions at this level provide the full range of duties described above. Incumbents may also have the following duties: 1. Provide one or more front office services on a regular basis and routine and/or 2. Department Overview The UC Davis Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing the highest quality care to people in every stage of their life, whether they are seeking contraceptive or fertility advice, care during and after pregnancy, or treatment for menopausal symptoms. The OBGYN Clinic completes approximately 25,000 visits per year at the Ambulatory Care locations in Sacramento. In addition to general obstetrics and gynecology, services are provided in the subspecialties of Dysplasia, Endocrinology, Perinatology, Prenatal Diagnosis, Oncology, Urogynecology, and Family Planning. Department Specific Job Scope The MA 2 is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The MA 2 provides non-licensed medical support to medical care providers as a medical assistant for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned. The MA 2 is supervised by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) when administering medications and performing or assisting with procedures. The MA 2 works under the direction of a clinic manager (practice manager and/or nurse manager) for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior & development, assignment & scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by an LIP.
