Departmental Overview Academic Planning, led by the Vice Provost, works on behalf of the the Provost in the areas of academic space planning, global engagement and international affairs, academic program reviews, and new academic ventures and programs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost and Chief of Staff of Academic Planning, and closely collaborating with a small team of academic space planners, this position involves the collection, updating, management, and reporting of space planning related data. This position is expected to operate as the space data expert for the Division of Academic Planning and for UC Berkeley. Additionally, this position will analyze and utilize the space data to collaborate in the strategic and long-range planning for the programming, design, and development of campus space, properties, and facilities, including buildings, infrastructure, and landscape projects; research, design and program guidelines; compliance with environmental planning regulations and architectural design review. To ensure that limited resources are deployed in a strategic and economic fashion, this position will also serve to collaborate in the creation and implementation of campus-wide initiatives aimed to improve space utilization and offer campus leadership non-capital space related solutions to space related issues. Touching on such areas as classroom utilization, storage space strategies, data center spaces, and library and collection spaces, the position will create policies and programs that incentivize space utilization along the campus' financial and academic management vision. The position of Space Planner will collaborate in the management of the short- and long-range planning for the Vice Provost for Academic Planning (VPAP), as well as collaborate in the management of the campus-wide space incentive programs (SUIP). Responsibilities include analyzing, managing, and planning for the physical, environmental and security conditions of campus facilities, representing VPAP for future facility construction and build-outs, promoting campus principles for all building/space renovations, project development/management, space planning, move planning and coordination, occupancy planning, resource management, and the development of procedures, policies and communications related to infrastructure and safety. This will include, but is not be limited to: management of all changes to space, act as internal project manager for minor and major capital projects, collaborating with internal campus units such as Capital Projects, Physical Plant-Campus Services, SMCP, IS&T, EH&S, acting as point of contact for space data with the UC Office of the President, as well as interfacing with external consultant architects and engineers and safety professionals. Responsibilities Serves as Academic Space Planner/Space Data Project Manager for campus-wide initiatives: Oversees campus' academic planning software database system TRIRIGA. This system houses all academic space data and is the center of a data-driven space management office. Incumbent is a recognized expert in space data collection, housing, upkeep, and reporting.
Provides academic space planning services for the VPAP and campus. This includes small, medium, and large scale moves and surge planning.
Provides general expert administrative staffing for a number of related projects and tasks within the Space Planning team and the Division of Academic Planning.
Serves as liaison with campus and external agencies regarding space moves, construction activities, and renovation projects for all spaces under the preview of VPAP.
May serve as Project Manager for small and medium sized space planning moves, including surge planning. Required Qualifications

Salary & Benefits This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits. Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
