Head Coach, Baseball
Hood College Athletics
Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach of Baseball will recruit qualified student-athletes for the program, instruct and develop the student-athlete in the sport of baseball, game preparation and community involvement. The Head Coach will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department. Instruction should include, but not be limited to, the rules, techniques and strategies relating to practice and competition in the sport. The Head Coach provides administrative support to the college’s NCAA Division III baseball program. Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration (60%) Model and instruct student athletes in departmental, College, Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures including Hood Honor Code, Alcohol Policy, Code of Conduct, Travel Policy, Conference bylaws and proceedings, and NCAA guidelines; Organize and conduct practices during the traditional and non-traditional season; Develop team travel and security plans in compliance with departmental and College guidelines for safety and other requirements; Serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition; Manage and account for team money distributed for meal and/or other expenses. Submit required forms and reports to Director of Athletics and Accounting Department; Responsible for assisting in management of operational budget issues: participate in uniform and equipment purchase process; plan and coordinate team travel under the supervision of Director of Athletics’ Office; develop and implement fund-raising strategies; Assure currency with NCAA regulations, Conference bylaws and proceedings, and departmental policies. Participate in NCAA and Conference meetings as appropriate; Refer student athletes to College resources as necessary to assist with academic, medical, and/or personal issues that may arise throughout the year; Represent the Department of Athletics at on-campus Admissions Open Houses and/or other predetermined events; Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics. Recruiting (35%) Develops recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as pre-approved with the Director of Athletics; Work with Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective student-athletes, both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College; Develop annual media plan that includes marketing, promotion materials, media guides, news releases, etc. for promotion of student-athletes, the team, and the College; Respond to prospective student inquiries and maintain record of contacts. Secondary Duty (5%) Oversee reservations for athletic mascot; Supervise and secure student workers to fill position when needed.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
Technology Skills Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Proficient with internet and email. Ability to use available instructional technology resources to effectively teach in a manner conducive to classroom presentation including, but not limited to, use of audio visual equipment, computer, educational software, etc. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to develop marketing or promotion materials. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, or others. Ability to teach individuals skills and team concept. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with and apply basic mathematical concepts timely and accurately, either manually or by using a calculator. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to hypothesize, draw conclusions, and support conclusions. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate. |
