The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.
Your Role on the Team
Under the direction, guidance and supervision of the Clinic Nurse Supervisor and Clinical Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant II supports clinicians and health care team members in providing for the needs of patients. The Medical Assistant II performs patient centered, specialty, and nursing department duties and responsibilities as well as acts as a Lead Medical Assistant for an assigned pod/panel or specialty services at the Student Health Center.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$24.27- $$26.79 (Hourly).
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Certificate of completion from a certified Medical Assistant (MA) program.
- Certificate of completion for Immunization administration and PPD skin test administration.
- Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card and maintained in accordance with the American Heart Association (AHA) standards.
- Minimum 1 year Medical Assistant experience assisting in a women's health procedures like colposcopy, insertion & removal of medical devices (ex. IUD, Nexplanon) and other gynecologic procedures.
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in primary care or ambulatory care setting.
- Experience serving as a lead for a group of medical assistants.
- Experience with administrative and clerical tasks such as order supplies and equipment, developing reports and tracking logs.
- General knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Must have skill, knowledge, and ability to assist in Women's Health Clinic, general clinic and minor surgical procedures.
- Must have critical understanding of Universal Precautions, sterile techniques and principles of infection control.
- Must be able to work in a collaborative manner and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Must have legible handwriting and charting skills.
- Must have basic knowledge of common laboratory tests and ability to collect or assist with the collection of urine clean catch, mid-stream specimen, stool for occult blood and stool for ova and parasites, wet mount, GC, Chlamydia, PAP smear and sputum specimen.
- Must have basic knowledge regarding identification, operation, and maintenance of the following equipment: oxygen administration unit (O2 tank, mask and cannula), autoclave unit, surgical instruments, suction machine and tubing, hyfrecator, EKG unit and liquid nitrogen.
- Must have basic knowledge of common radiology diagnostic tests, i.e., UGI, BE, IVP, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, etc.
- Must have basic knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, including medical terminology.
- Must have the ability to perform visual acuity tests, color vision tests, audiometry and pulmonary function tests.
- Must possess the skills, knowledge and ability to accurately perform vital signs (BP, TPR), height (Ht), Weight (Wt), and BMI.
- Must have basic knowledge and ability to use medical supplies.
- Must have knowledge and experience in medical records, understand patient confidentiality and standard of care.
- Experience in the use of electronic health records or medical system.
- Must have typing and computer experience with: Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to write clear, professional emails and secure messages
- Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including ability to effectively relay health information to patients.
- Strong commitment to delivering high quality care and outstanding customer services.

- Certified Medical Assistant with American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) valid certification.
Special Conditions:
- This position's schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, however, weekend or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours.
- Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring or licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position.
- The employee must comply with OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC recommendations and requirements regarding vaccination and testing of healthcare employees. This includes, but may not be limited to; current hepatitis B immunizations, annual flu vaccinations, and annual tuberculosis screening. The employee must comply with CDPH and UC COVID-19 Vaccine Policy, by providing proof of Full Vaccination or submitting a request for Exception.
