Assistant Director, Payroll

CORE DUTIES:

• Assist with the administrative responsibility of processing the University?s Payroll
• Process the semi-monthly payroll and cross train with the Payroll Specialist on the weekly payroll
• Assist with coordinating the ADP multi-state employment tax process with ADP for the University
• Assist with reconciling local, state, and federal taxes
• Analyze payroll data, deductions and garnishments for accuracy and research discrepancies or inconsistencies using custom reports
• Process manual checks, voids, and payroll adjustments
• Ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely in accordance with University policies and procedures
• Participate in audits and prepare materials and information required
• Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files
• Answer inquiries regarding employment verifications
• Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
• Manage the Payroll Office in the absence of the Director of Payroll and the Associate Director of Payroll
• Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
• Perform other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level and responsibilities of the position

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Accounting or related field is required, MBA a plus
• A minimum of three years of experience working in payroll is required
• Experience with multi-state and federal taxes, filing, and compliance is required
• Excellent computer skills including high level proficiency in Excel is required
• Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of Banner HR/Payroll software a plus
• Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
• Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred
• Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate with various levels of management
• Must be detail oriented and able to adhere to tight deadlines with excellent organizational skills
