The Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources is seeking a motivated and research-focused individual for the Research Technician II position. This role involves assisting with collaborative projects across various subdisciplines, including pollinator, avian, invertebrate, molecular, restoration, and grassland ecology. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Stephenville, TX, with work hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, or as required by work demands. Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the Universityâ™s discretion. This grant-funded position has a current term of 6 months to 1 year, with the potential for extension based on available funding. Depending upon the individualâ™s future career goals, we can possibly provide some professional development, research, education, or other opportunities. Responsibilities: Assisting with travel requests, accounting, purchasing, budget management, permits, or reports for Tarleton State University, state agencies, or private grantors: Support administrative and financial operations by processing and coordinating travel requests, managing expense accounts, and overseeing purchasing activities. This includes handling budgetary tasks, preparing and submitting permits, and compiling detailed reports for the University, state agencies, and private grantors to ensure compliance and efficient use of funds. Management of vehicles, equipment, and supplies: Oversee the maintenance and scheduling of departmental vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and proper storage of equipment and supplies, ensuring that all resources are readily available and in good working order for research and field activities. Management and care of plants, insect colonies, and captive animals for research: Provide daily care and management of research subjects, including plants, insect colonies, and captive animals. This includes monitoring their health, ensuring proper habitat conditions, feeding, and maintaining detailed records of their development and well-being to support ongoing research efforts. Field or laboratory data collection, including assistance with student-led projects: Participate in both fieldwork and laboratory settings to collect, record, and analyze data. This includes supporting student-led research projects by providing guidance, ensuring data accuracy, and facilitating the use of laboratory and field equipment for effective data collection. Data entry and management: Accurately input and manage large volumes of data related to research projects. This includes organizing datasets, ensuring data integrity, updating databases regularly, and generating reports as needed to support ongoing research and administrative functions. Minimum Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of related experience.
- Strong written skills
- Valid Texas driverâ™s license and ability to drive long distances, off-road, and in the dark
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use other programs
Preferred Qualification: - BS in wildlife, natural resources, biology, or a closely related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to prioritize and complete tasks effectively to set goals
- Strong management skills and work ethic
- Ability to work in adverse field conditions, including extreme heat and severe weather, poisonous plants, venomous animals, and remote locations
