Job Title: Controller Department: Finance Reports To: Chief Financial Officer Supervises: Accountant, Human Resource & Payroll Manager, Receptionist Job Type: Full-time Employment Classification: Exempt Position Overview: The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and providing strategic financial guidance to support our mission. Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees all aspects of the organization’s financial management including accounting functions, financial and cash flow management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking practices, financial reporting, payroll, and the annual audit process. Oversees and monitors the integrity of the general ledger and management systems to accurately report financial activity. Assists in preparation for annual and other fiscal audits. Acts as a liaison with auditors to provide them with materials necessary to complete their audit. Assists with preparation of the annual operating budget. Aids individual managers in the preparation and maintenance of departmental operational budgets, consolidating these budgets and reviewing actual performance against budgeted performance. Provides data, analysis, and reporting for the grants team and assists the development department with donor contribution reconciliations. Provides oversight and review of inventory processes and system, and the financial impacts of those processes and procedures. Supervises the Human Resource function, including benefits management, maintenance of the Drug-Free Workplace Program, and employee hiring and terminations. Manages the finance department staff including regular performance meetings and assisting with personal development plans and training opportunities. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required, CPA, CMA or Advanced Degree preferred. Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior accounting supervisory role, preferably in a non-profit organization. Skills: Must be a skilled professional with strong accounting background including non-profit experience. Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills. Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Proficient knowledge of MS Office and computerized accounting systems; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (FENXT) a plus. High level of integrity and commitment to ethical standards.
