Supervisor, MRI Technologist

Job Summary:

: The MRI Technologist Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the management of the day to day operations of the MRI Department at Westchester Medical Center. Responsibilities include supervising, training, and providing technical consultation to technologists involved in taking MRI images of various designated portions of the body prescribed by clinical providers, ensuring the safety and operation of equipment, and maintaining Radiology files following established protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Supervises technologists in the use of MRI imaging equipment to conduct appropriate examinations as prescribed by the attending physician.
• Provides training, technical direction, and consultation to the lower level staff, and addresses performance issues.
• Assists in providing training and technical direction to technologists in the procedures and techniques used in imaging MRI exams.
• Assists with troubleshooting all equipment failures and difficulties, and performs appropriate quality assurance procedures, tests and measurements.
• Makes adjustments to MRI equipment to correct setting for each examination.
• Assists in orienting and training of new staff, and serves as a resource and professional role model.
• Assists clinical providers with various procedures, treatments and surgical techniques as directed.
• Maintains department staff and compliance records required by various agencies that govern the department.
• Administers imaging tests and treatments as prescribed by clinical providers using protocols, and produces acceptable quality MRI images.
• Participates in continuing education programs in MRI techniques.
• Selects appropriate sequencing protocols for particular exams under the guidance of the Radiologist.
• Troubleshoots all equipment failures and difficulties, and performs appropriate quality assurance procedures, tests and measurements.
• Assists in coordinating daily patient schedule and maintains log.
• Maintains department payroll records.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with medical and nursing staff to ensure adequate and timely servicing of patients.
• Participates in continuing education programs in MRI techniques.
• Effectively uses automated systems to perform work assignments.

Experience:

3 years of experience in a hospital x-ray department or a private radiological service where the primary function of the position was performing diagnostic work using radiology equipment, required.

Education:

Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution, required.

Licenses / Certifications:

Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the New York State Department of Health, as a Radiologic Technologist in the field of diagnostic radiography, required. Must be certified and maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Other:

Good knowledge of the modern procedures in the performance of magnetic resonance imaging for diagnostic purposes; thorough knowledge of the operation of peripheral equipment; thorough knowledge of required safety precautions in the operation and use of equipment; good knowledge of human anatomy; good knowledge of the physics of magnetic resonance; skill in the operation and use of the equipment; skill in the operation and minor repair of complex MRI equipment; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to supervise, direct and instruct others; ability to handle sick and injured patients properly; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position; thoroughness; reliability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
