1. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAM ADMISSIONS COORDINATION & ADVISING Lead Educator Preparation Program admissions and transition points · Create, annually update, and disseminate the Educator Preparation Program Monitoring & Advising Handbook to faculty, staff, and students; consult with Assistant Dean, Department Chair, and Program Leads as needed · Verify Monitoring & Advising Handbook satisfies requirements for individual programs, state and national teacher education accreditors, and SACSCOC · Attend state and national professional development meetings and share updates related to EPP admissions, requirements, and transition points. Facilitate Pre-Admission Status - Update declarations of major weekly and assist students with declaring teacher education major - Advise new, transfer, and returning students via phone, email, and mailings regarding initial course selection, admission requirements, etc. - Advise all transfer students prior to matriculation regarding coursework, Praxis exams, and work with Transfer Resource Center for support - Attend teacher education recruitment events and provide admissions information - Verify each semester by running major declaration reports that Misters, Leaders, and Fellows have declared accurate majors and work with program directors to remedy any candidates who have not cleared Direct Admission to Educator Preparation Program (EPP) - Update and disseminate annually EPP admission criteria - Verify criteria align with programmatic, state, and national requirements - Create and present EPP admissions presentations and materials for EDFS 201 courses and other EPP entry point courses and events - Customize and lead presentations for special groups regarding EPP admission (e.g., Teach Local, MAT cohorts, etc.) - Schedule and publicize EPP admission presentations with faculty members and candidates - Lead students to apply for EPP admission via portal (e.g., Tk20) - Assist students with application process via group and individual sessions - Conduct degree audits via appropriate systems (e.g., DegreeWorks and Banner) each semester for all candidates and advise students of requirement status regarding coursework and GPA - Monitor qualifying ACT/SAT scores and/or Praxis Core scores for all EPP candidates - Advise candidates of individual and composite Praxis score options, upcoming test availability, correct exams, and retest options - Document coursework degree audits, Praxis score updates, and advising in Tk20; connect with faculty advisors for updates regarding EPP admission for additional support - Direct candidates to Student Learning Center, EPP faculty members, and online resources for Praxis Core support - Send admission letters to candidates and families alerting full admission status Direct Admission to Clinical Practice - Update and disseminate annually EPP clinical practice admission criteria - Verify criteria align with programmatic, state, and national requirements - Create and present clinical practice admissions presentations and materials - Schedule and publicize clinical practice admission seminars each semester with candidates and faculty; create and distribute flyers, website updates, social media posts, and email notices - Lead students to apply for EPP admission via portal during information sessions and follow-up with individual questions - Monitor progress of declared education majors to ensure attendance at mandatory information sessions is completed; engage faculty advisors as needed for reminders - Conduct degree audits each semester appropriate systems (e.g., DegreeWorks and Banner) for all candidates and advise students of requirement status regarding coursework and GPA; engage faculty as needed - Document course exceptions to verify clinical practice admission and for state required letters following graduation - Direct candidates to complete state background checks, TB tests, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification for clinical practice admission and to upload artifacts into portal - Serve as liaison with SC Department of Education staff for background checks and student teaching portal - Verify candidate clearance in state portal and communicate status with OSSC & TEDU - Serve as liaison with Student Health Services for TB tests - Instruct candidates to complete Request to Work and Request to Proceed forms in portal - Track progress of each individual student and document in portal and in shared spreadsheet with OSSC and TEDU office and alert of clearance status for placement and course registration Direct Admission to the Profession - Update and disseminate annually state licensure requirements and Praxis II testing information for admission to the profession - Create and present professional admission presentations and materials at student teaching workshops, seminars, and via email/video - Monitor all candidates’ Praxis II progress and advise them individually regarding exams, scores, and processes; engage faculty for support - Verify degree completion, request official transcripts from Registrar, and check completion of Read to Success, state-mandated course sequences - Complete SC Teacher Certification Recommendation forms for each candidate for Assistant Dean review and signature - Write letters to address course substitutions, transfer credits, etc. to satisfy state requirements; review with Assistant Dean and Department Chair; prepare for Assistant Dean signature - Direct candidates to complete add-on paperwork, as applicable, for secondary certification areas - Compile Recommendation Forms, Transcripts, add-on documents, and exception letters to expedite to SC Department of Education for initial certification for alumni and for admission to the profession - Compose individual letters of intent and distribute to all graduating candidates of degree completion and certification recommendation for graduating alumni to use to secure teaching jobs
Facilitate Non-Degree Graduate Student Admission to School of Education
- Collaborate with Associate Dean, OSSC Director, and graduate program leads to review and admit non-degree graduate students to School of Education - Lead students to address issues with lawful presence, residency, etc. as they enter graduate school - Translate graduate school application data into Banner for admission - Solicit official transcripts from applicants and verify links with BDM for applicants - Ensure students are registered for appropriate classes - Assist students and program directors with transitioning to graduate degree programs - Verify graduate school acknowledgement forms
Direct Project Create Transfer Evaluations and Serve as Liaison to Trident Technical College
- Solicit, receive, and process official transcripts for Create aspiring candidates - Determine transfer equivalencies at CofC and communicate with Create director at Trident Technical College - Work with Create director at Trident Technical College and Create director at College of Charleston to create programs of study for candidates - Monitor Create students’ progress at Trident to ensure general education requirements are met - Facilitate transition from Trident Technical College to College of Charleston through transfer admissions and declaration of major - Verify EPP admission for Create students
Lead Readmit Student Conferences and Planning
- Work with various CofC entities for students who are readmitted to School of Education - Manage mathematical computations and curriculum planning for returning students - Navigate and lead EPP admissions criteria for readmitted students and work toward meeting state teacher certification requirements |
