Position Title:Residency - OphthalmologyAppointment Type:Post Doc/TraineeJob Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, Veterinary Medical Center, offers a training program in Veterinary Ophthalmology designed to prepare residents for board certification by the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmology. The residency program is three years in duration, and will be renewed on an annual basis based on continued funding. A concurrent Master of Science program is also available, but is not required for the residency program. There are currently 2 ACVO diplomates and 1 ECVO diplomate (ABVO approved) in direct support of the residency training along with 2 dedicated ophthalmology technicians. In addition, board certified specialists in various fields (e.g. internal medicine, surgery, oncology, dermatology, radiology, pathology, large animal, cardiology, and more) provide additional program support. Ophthalmology residents (currently 3 total) share primary ophthalmology emergency duties, including after hours, weekends and holidays. Residents participate in clinical rounds, seminars, journal club, image review, surgical practice, continuing education programs, and various departmental academic programs (including student teaching). The program has been developed to provide residents with comprehensive knowledge of ocular conditions affecting animals and is approved by the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ABVO). Our program strives to prepare residents for active careers in academia or specialty practice, and the caseload provides an excellent and broad experience over the duration of the residency.
