Director of Accounting

Job Summary 

• It is the basic function and responsibility of the Director of Accounting to coordinate the activities of the Accounting Department to ensure that all financial record-keeping and reporting requirements are maintained and filed, to keep other departments well informed, and to expedite the business of the Cooperative.
• Provides critical financial information to and works with executive management to ensure the overall financial stability of the Cooperative.
• Coordinates and supervises accounting activities in order to prepare and maintain financial records required by PEC’s management, Board of Trustee’s and Lenders.
• Maintains long-term debt accounts for PEC’s lenders, manages daily cash flow and invests monies as funds are available.
• Processes and analyzes monthly and year-end financial reports, including the preparation of the monthly report for the Board of Trustees.
• Facilitates and compiles annual Cooperative budget to submit for Board approval.
• Prepares annual Form 7 and other industry and tax reports required by various State, Federal and authoritative bodies.
• Assists with maintaining Cooperative's insurance policies in force, requests changes and certificates as necessary, and monitors proper insurance certification for contractors.
• Monitors and reviews various accounting controls throughout PEC's system.
• Responsible for hiring, supervising and evaluating staff members under direct and indirect supervision within the Accounting Department.
• Oversees PEC’s payroll function to ensure employees are paid according to schedule and that all corresponding payroll tax deposits and reports are paid and filed on a timely basis.
• Oversees PEC’s Work Order process to ensure all Work Orders are tracked appropriately and closed on a timely basis.
• Oversees PEC’s Accounts Payable function to ensure that all required payments are paid on a timely basis and accounted for in an appropriate manner.
• Oversees PEC’s annual audit, working with PEC’s auditors to ensure that all necessary information is provided to them in a timely and accurate manner.
• Oversees PEC’s annual tax return filings, providing all necessary information to the accounting firm to ensure the return is properly and timely filed.
• Oversees and maintains PEC’s Capital Credit accounts, including the annual allocation and retirement processes.
• Performs all other necessary duties to assure effective workflow and realization of departmental goals and objectives.
