Posting Description FINANCIAL ASSISTANT, Chemistry, to provide direct support to the senior financial officer. Will perform financial management of general, fund, and research accounts for assigned faculty portfolio. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving requests for payment, procurement card (ProCard) transactions, purchase requisitions, travel expense reports, and invoices; reviewing, monitoring, and following up with lab members on open purchase commitments; monitoring ProCard transactions and resolving swept charges; monitoring and following up with administrative assistants and/or travel card holders to resolve aged/unresolved/outstanding travel expenses; reconciling accounts in accordance with MIT's financial review and control process; processing financial transactions including journal vouchers, requests for payment, travel expense reports, purchase requisitions, and invoices; overseeing and maintaining all financial documentation and electronic files for assigned faculty portfolio; researching and resolving complex inquiries that require additional knowledge and/or interpretation of MIT purchasing/travel policies and procedure; preparing and pulling monthly financial reports; serving as backup approver and resource for lab members and administrative assistants regarding MIT policies; collaborating with MIT central offices as needed to research and resolve issues; and performing other duties as assigned. Job Requirements REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of financial/accounting experience; excellent communication, organizational, accounting, and analytical skills required; proven ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, follow through, and meet deadlines; attention to detail; sound judgment; and ability to work independently and as part of a team. PREFERRED: bachelor's degree; experience with Excel, Word, and university accounting and purchasing systems; and proficiency with MIT's financial software (SAP, Cognos). Job #24190-5
