Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Psychology

Position Summary:

The successful applicant will join a close-knit, growth-oriented department that offers bachelor’s degrees in psychology, psychology with an emphasis in clinical and a joint sports psychology program with our kinesiology department. Although our department members are research active, Adams State University is an institution primarily focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is comprised of 12 credit-hours each semester. Mission of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences

Mission -The School for Humanities and Social Sciences meets students where they are, through equitable and inclusive education, and guides them in their exploration and analysis of the complexities of diverse cultures and societies to understand the past, lead in the present, and prepare for the future. Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Psychology by the time the position starts.

• A strong passion for teaching and experience teaching psychology courses at the undergraduate level. While we are interested in generalists, teaching responsibilities will likely include courses from the following list: Introduction to Psychology, Personality, Social Psychology, Multicultural Psychology, Psychology of Gender, Research Methods, and Psychological Statistics. We are also open to specialty topic areas of particular interest to candidates.

• Knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities in a global environment.

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University’s student population, including students with different abilities (e.g., physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

• Experience employing or willingness to employ high impact teaching practices regularly in the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability or experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.

• Evidence of valuing equity, treating cultural and linguistic diversity as assets, and sensitivity to and understanding of diverse students.

• Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.

• Commitment to professional development and scholarship.

• Commitment to service to the university, students, and community.

• Demonstrated self-awareness of one’s own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one’s orientation towards teaching and leadership.

• Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students ‘unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths.

• Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50,388-$64,656 commensurate with experience and education. The salary range reflects a minimum for an entry level Assistant Professor position to a maximum for an experienced Associate Professor position.
