Weekend Coordinator, Lower Campus

Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.

Summary of Position

Ojai Valley School, Lower Campus is seeking a well-qualified candidate to serve as a Weekend Coordinator. The Weekend Coordinator, under the supervision of the Head of Lower Campus, is responsible for planning and executing weekend activities for resident students. The Weekend Coordinator is responsible for the management and care of resident students in their charge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Monitors, creates, and implements plans to care for the physical, emotional, and academic development of resident students.
2. Plans the academic year’s calendar of coordinated events, including educational objectives and character-building initiatives.
3. Organizes all the scheduling for the weekends including scheduling day faculty for shifts to support the resident program.
4. Plans cultural trips, such as museums, concerts, and plays.
5. Reserves and checks up on events occurring in the Tri-Counties and Los Angeles areas.
6. Works closely and communicates with the Business Office, Transportation, Food Services, and the Health Center regarding all excursions.
7. Checks in and out with dorm parents regarding students’ behavior and academics during the week and explains student problems (over the weekend) to dorm parents.
8. Is responsible for dorms being locked and for dorms, offices, classrooms, pool area, and stables to be secured at night.
9. Coordinates with the administration to find out the number of students on campus during the weekend and exact travel arrangements. Notifies Food Services and faculty as to student numbers.
10. Coordinates with teachers to ensure resident students fulfill their academic responsibilities in weekend study hall.
11. Coordinates with resident staff to ensure laundry and other student hygiene needs are being cared for.
12.  Coordinates with the resident staff and administration to ensure coverage during absence and continuity of program during emergency situations.
13. Picks up weekend money from the Front Office and distributes it to those staff members needing funds for activities. Collects receipts, keeps track of monies spent, and submits remainder of money to the Head of Lower Campus.
14. Is responsible for all discipline on weekends. Coordinates with the Assistant Head of Lower Campus for discipline problems from the previous week and attends to having students work off marks and work duty on the weekends.
15.  Continuously checks roll, being certain of the location of all students.
16. Makes students aware of expected behavior on all trips, on the bus, and at all activities. Holds students accountable for their actions.
17.  Coordinates all special events on campus, (i.e., Halloween, Parent Weekends, In-Service Days, etc.).
18. Communicate with parents on a regular basis as needed.
19. Is thoroughly advised and clear about roles during emergencies and disaster procedures.
20.  Contributes to the monitoring/improvement of safety protocols, supervision procedures, and reward/discipline systems used in the resident program.
21. Serves on Disciplinary Action Committee, when needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Four-year degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or employees of organization. In addition, the following communications are required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

1. Current CPR Certificate
2. California Driver's License required
3. Lifeguarding certification preferred (training is available)
