The role you’ll contribute: The Diagnostic Medical and Vascular Sonographer, under general supervision performs general Sonography and Vascular Sonography procedures in accordance with department protocols. Performs, at a technical level, a variety of ultrasound procedures on neonatal through geriatric patients. Assists physicians with interventional procedures. Selects practical applications and technical factors. Is knowledgeable in and carries out all applicable processes of the department. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures. Participates in the AdventHealth performance improvement program. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. The value you’ll bring to the team: Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth's core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork. · Exam Supervision and Administration: Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus and/or NPO prep status as observed by Radiologists, Ultrasound Educator, and Ultrasound Manager. Follows proper exam protocols as outlined in department Policy and Procedure manual. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam. Performs, properly documents, and reports all procedures in accordance with departmental policy. Adapts procedure to each patient's medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation. Maintains patient confidentiality. · Diagnostic Image Quality and Documentation: Reviews all images on ultrasound machine or Web and thoroughly fills out Ultrasound worksheet in a timely manner. Re-scans patient as requested by Radiologist. Is open to critique of exams by Radiologist and/or department Manager/Educator. Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade clinical skills. Maintains familiarity with new procedures. Assists with clinical instructions and serves as a resource to less experienced employees. · Personal Productivity and Accountability: Completes exams in a timely manner. Properly and consistently evaluates patient prep status and schedules exam accordingly. Coordinates acceptable patient throughput in either an IP and/or OP setting keeping the department on schedule and maintaining desired productivity. Follows direction from Manager and Lead Sonographer. Keeps supervisor or manager informed and seeks assistance from appropriate individuals when confronted with complicated procedures to ensure safe and effective patient care. Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Maintains a professional relationship with all customers. Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and understanding. · Data Processing: Utilizes computer system to update exam status, cancel/update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedure completed. Confirms proper exam/patient assignment at QC before releasing images to PACS for interpretation. Corrects erroneous accession numbers in PACS when needed. Notifies Radiology Facilitator (RF) and transmits required worksheet and requisition for all after-hour's cases. Effective knowledge of all Information Systems used in the Ultrasound department. Accurately documents, completes and charges procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital. Follows all AdventHealth policies and departmental procedures' outlines. · Safety and the Environment of Care: Operates and maintains ultrasound equipment in a safe manner. Adheres to all infection control standards. May transport pharmaceutical waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area. Completes initial training (prior to handling pharmaceutical waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of pharmaceutical waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Follows all protocols relating to proper cleaning of gel bottles. Follows guidelines for proper use of Glutaraldehyde User Station (GUS) unit. Washes hands before and after every patient encounter. Manages time and equipment effectively and works as a team member to provide the best patient care. Carries out assignments in a timely manner. Keeps supervisor or manager informed of whereabouts throughout shift. Receives instructions and guidance from the supervisor or manager and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate. Follows through with all details to ensure a smooth and timely flow of procedures. · Clinical Competence: Performs a full range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures and operates all ultrasound equipment in assigned department. Rotates between multiple campuses/US departments as needed. Utilizes the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate/infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics). Acquires knowledge and skills through training, in-service, continuing education and/or experience. Learns and adapts to new technologies and protocols and helps develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and students. Utilizes knowledge of peripheral vascular anatomy and physiology. Calculates information accurately. Utilizes knowledge and skill to provide service to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients · Performance Improvement: Assists with data collection for KPI's while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. Contributes toward process improvement by serving on process improvement (PI) teams as assigned. Participates in department surveys and patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate. · Department Meeting Attendance: Attends department meetings consistently and promotes positive dialogue with respect to department objectives. Listens and is responsible to understand all agenda items. Attends all other meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: · Graduate of Ultrasound Program LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification · ARDMS/ARRT and/or CCI credentials to include: 1. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS (AB) AND Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer RDMS (OB/GYN) AND one of the following: a. Registered Vascular Technology RVT (VT) b. Registered Vascular Sonographer RVS (VS)
