Position Information:
UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for a Senior Building Maintenance Worker. The full salary range for the Senior Building Maintenance Worker is $23.43 - $30.91 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

The Senior Building Maintenance Worker (SBMW) assists with the performance of maintenance services or project work within Auxiliary Services. Performs a wide variety of special projects including furniture and equipment moves, reconfiguration of office furniture, set-up of storage facilities including shelving installation, student room furniture installations, dis-assembly and reconfiguration of student room furniture, installation of playground equipment, and similar projects. Performs repairs on equipment such as gasoline powered pressure washers, similar power equipment. Functions as service providers to other inhouse project management staff performing selected portions of the overall larger project work scope. Provides assistance to Skilled Crafts staff to move mechanical equipment, change filters, performs other non-trades level support functions. Performs and assists with performing preventive maintenance work. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, reconditions tools and equipment used in the performance of maintenance and special projects work. Performs hands-on maintenance work on facilities and equipment at SBMW level. Performs work according to unit priorities as established by the supervisor. Performs, assists with performing, and coordinates preventive maintenance work. Assists with responding to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate building maintenance concerns or safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, residents and guests.

Educational Requirements
  • High School Diploma

    Experience Requirements
  • 2 years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Required
  • Experience and ability to prioritize work orders, routine work, emergency requests and ability to choose the proper materials or equipment to accomplish work in the most expeditious and safe manner.

  • Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service.

  • Experience and/or certification of training in forklifts, lifts and/or boom truck operations.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to work independently, as a part of a regular maintenance crew, or as an assistant to skilled tradesmen.
  • Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the various skilled trade.
  • Ability to perform minor routine maintenance including taking meter readings, changing out filters, lamps, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected.
  • Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and/or planned maintenance tasks, projects, and assignments, such as replacing filters, lamps, framing, concrete, furniture repairs, hardware repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays. Ability to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime, emergency call-back, and a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to support other trades in Auxiliary Facilities Services, unit by performing semi-skilled building maintenance tasks, including Access Control, Carpentry/Sheetmetal/Regulated Materials, Electrical, Building Mechanical/HVAC, Plumbing, Paint/Signage, Fire & Life Safety.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UC/UCR policies and systems.
  • Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications. (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design, Cad 2, etc.)
  • Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability read and understand documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications and diagrams.
