Experiential Learning & Career Advisor About the Opportunity JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Associate Director, Experiential Learning & Career Services, the Experiential Learning & Career Advisor delivers high-impact career advising & experiential support to diverse student populations, including a large population of international students by:
The Experiential Learning & Career Advisor creates collaborative opportunities for co-op placement and support career development for CPS leaners across the institution's global network, emphasizing experiential learning, engagement with industry partners and professional networks and communities serving CPS graduate and undergraduate learners throughout NU's global network. Finally, the Experiential Learning & Career Advisor is responsible for continuous improvement of career and experiential pathways leading to improved YoY student satisfaction and co-op participation growth, in part to support CPS goals for persistence, retention, graduation rates, and post-matriculation career. The Advisor leverages internal and external resources to scale and sustain programs, publicize initiatives, safeguard and serve the unique experiential needs of CPS learner populations, and establish CPS experiential learning as a widely recognized differentiator for the college, on par with the rest of the university. This is a hybrid position that requires two days in our Boston campus office. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 60% Experiential Pathways & Career Advising As experiential learning strategists, manage a caseload of CPS graduate and/or undergraduate students in specific academic professional studies programs to secure co-op placements, experiential opportunities including internships, XN project-based learning etc. Accountable for delivery of high-quality and impactful advising and career coaching, including experiential learning planning, career exploration and decision-making. Develop Career Action Plans (CAPs) (monitoring and interventions) to provide students a guided path for taking advantage of experiential learning opportunities well aligned with academic curriculum. Guide and direct all learners through co-op search and placement process, with particular attention for international learners relative to U.S. law employment guidelines and visa status. Provide resource referrals as needed. Ensure culturally responsive and inclusive practices. Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure a coherent narrative around co-op process and access to experiential pathways. Work with academic programs & OGS to ensure access to and appropriate participation in experiential pathways for 100% of eligible CPS learners. Provide individual and group advising to students engaged in or participating in experiential learning (co-op). Work closely with student participants to help them secure future opportunities. 20% Career Resources Collaboration & Programming As career experts work with advisees to discern their professional development and career interests related to academic concentration choices and preliminary co-op and experiential planning. This requires collaboration and resourcing with other student-facing units for industry engagement, alumni affairs, career design office, academic advising, OGS, student clubs, professional organizations, etc. Provide support with the development of career tools (ex. resume, cover letter and profile development) and when appropriate create opportunities to discuss interviewing techniques and networking opportunities. Use of tools including VMock, Big Interview, Burning Glass, etc. Assist in planning and delivering classroom presentations, workshops, and panels in small and large group settings on career-related topics: career planning, resume/cover letters, networking, interview skills, job search strategies, and industry specific topics, Support CPS student open houses and orientations for new and continuing learners. Provide active referrals to Employer Engagement and Career Design colleagues. 10% Tracking, Monitoring and Reporting Embrace a data-informed approach to student services and support. Responsible for data collection and reporting for all co-op and experiential pathways activities in their portfolios. Under the direction of the Associate Director, monitor and report student engagement, student outcomes and other deliverables for each student in their portfolio caseloads. Use required unit tech platforms (Salesforce, Simplicity, etc.) as directed to track and report. Support any new, innovative approaches to measure and evaluate experiential learning, assist in the adoption and use of appropriate assessment tools, and work with the Associate Director and other leadership to project and plan resources and budgets 10% Communication focus Leverage tools and systems to maintain communication and update resources and career materials for on-demand access. Conduct research on market trends and advances in the field and disseminates information.
