The Medical Assistant, Certified functionsasa nintegral member of theinterdisciplinary healthcare team in providingdir ect patient care. TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routine admin istrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System medicalpr actice that assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination andtre atment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.
Work PerformedClinical responsibilities:The CMA takes medical histories and records vitalsigns, explainstreatment procedures to patie nts, and prepares patients for examinationsand procedures.Patient caresu pport responsibilities may include assisting the medicaland nursingsiona l content and his/her involvement intheplan of care, and documentingin t he patient record.Other clinical support responsibilities includedisposi ng ofcontaminated supplies, instrument processing, high level disinfecti onand sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning prescriptions to apharmacy, preparing and administering medications as directed byaphysi cian, and authorizing drug refills as directed. Performs otherclinical f unctions as delegated and supervised by the physician.Administrative res ponsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephones, schedules app ointments toinclude arrive appointments in MaestroCare, checkoutpatients , andreferral scheduling; arranges for hospital admissions andlaboratory services, updates and files patient medical records, fills outinsurancef orms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays andcollec tions on account balances; correspondence, and ordering clinicaland cler ical supplies and forms. Performs other administrative dutiesasdirtCommi ssion and falls and/or participate in clinic committees.

Education
Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level I -- No experience required. Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Level III -- 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Level IV -- 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General Ladder Statement: In addition tothe education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II, III, and IV.
