This role ensures efficient and accurate medication distribution, system maintenance, and compliance with safety standards across various sites, including off-site Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHiP) locations (50% of the time). Duties and Responsibilities of this LevelMaintaining Automatic Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) - - Routinely manage and replenish inventory at off-site automatic dispensing cabinets, ensuring optimal par/restock levels, monitoring medication expirations, and maintaining appropriate storage conditions to uphold safety and compliance standards.
- Administer user profile configurations and access rights on the server, including the initiation, modification, and deactivation of accounts.
- Conduct regular inspections and perform maintenance tasks on Automatic Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), which include replacing defective components, updating bin barcodes and auxiliary labels, and ensuring the cleanliness of the units.
- Address and resolve issues related to medication shortages, recalls, and dispensing errors promptly.
- Support the deployment of new Omnicell systems and contribute to strategic planning for future enhancements and projects.
- Oversee monthly inventory assessments for medications, responding effectively to inventory discrepancies and fulfilling item management requests as directed by senior management.
- Develop, evaluate, and revise policy and procedure documents governing ADC operations and maintenance at Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHiP) locations to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Provide training and guidance to other pharmacy technicians on operational procedures and best practices for ADC use to ensure optimal functionality and compliance.
Managing Code Carts - - Inspect, build, and track code carts, ensuring they are compliant and ready for emergency use.
- Systematically audit and replenish inventory in code carts in alignment with DUH Pharmacy's Code Blue policy to maintain readiness.
- Travel to off-site Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHiP) locations to replenish and troubleshoot code carts and Automatic Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs).
- Formulate and uphold comprehensive policy and procedure documentation specifically tailored for code cart management at DHiP locations.
- Provide specialized training to other pharmacy technicians on code cart management and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Act as the designated pharmacy liaison for the Duke Patient Response oversight committee, facilitating communication and collaborative response strategies.
Additional Duties - - Staff inpatient operations pharmacy on a regular cadence to support ongoing pharmacy needs and maintain proficiency in core pharmacy functions.
- Liaise with Omnicell support to troubleshoot issues, escort service technicians during repairs, and oversee the implementation of necessary system updates.
- Respond to nursing and other pharmacy areas' requests for ADC and code cart assistance.
- Provide feedback and continuous improvement suggestions for ADC and code cart management processes.
- Stay updated with the latest industry practices and participate in relevant training and development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Required Qualifications at this Level Education or or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience. College course work in business/management, position specific advanced coursework, and/or an equivalent combination is preferred.
Experience Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required. Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of drug names, medical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations. Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint Strong written and verbal communication skills. Requires critical thinking skills with ability to implement solutions. Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete satisfaction. Strong organizational skills including staying focused on assigned task and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectations. Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs., while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.
