Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Job Description: Overview: The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI): MSCM 5302 Community Health Challenges (spring semester, 3 credits) Course Description This course focuses on three critical public health issues: adverse childhood events (ACEs), substance abuse, and childhood asthma. Students will examine how these conditions present unique challenges to effective community health organization and intervention. The course uses epidemiological tools and the Complex Adaptive System (CAS) model to explore these health challenges' impact on individuals and communities. Through case studies, analysis, and evidence-based approaches, students will assess the effects of ACEs, substance abuse, and asthma on community health outcomes, identifying intervention strategies that promote health equity and long-term well-being. The course emphasizes practical, community-driven solutions to mitigate these health challenges, preparing students for leadership roles in public health intervention and policy development. The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty. Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services. Education and Experience: Candidates must possess at least a Master's degree in a related field, with a Doctoral degree being strongly preferred. A minimum of two years of teaching experience is required, and prior experience with active learning techniques is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Canvas learning management system is considered a plus. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages. Ability to travel locally, depending on business needs.
