Job Description Summary
The Executive Director (ED) of the Center for Community Standards and Accountability (CSA) oversees Penn's student disciplinary system and Restorative Practices @ Penn program, as well as provides leadership and direction for efforts to educate students about academic integrity and conduct issues. This position supervises the staff of the Case Management Team and the Restorative Practices Team (10 positions), coordinates and offers workshops and other educational programs to faculty, students and campus leaders, and advises senior leadership about major disciplinary policies and issues. The ED works collaboratively with other units such as the Division of University Life, College Houses and Academic Services, Wellness Services, the Division of Public Safety, the Office of General Council, and academic units to respond to, investigate and/or resolve reports of alleged violations of University policy and other conflicts. CSA partners across campus with students, staff and faculty to educate the community about Penn's expectations regarding community, conduct, and academic integrity. In addition, as Penn's new Office of Religious and Ethnic Inclusion spins up as a campus resource, that office will partner with both teams in CSA and this ED will be responsible for developing processes that enable such partnership.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Review and evaluate current cases under investigation or in the restorative process with staff; review options, generate/approve/disapprove resolutions;
provide guidance to staff on next steps; etc.
Collaborate with campus partners around particularly sensitive, complex or serious problems or in cases of University-wide concern.
Meet with other University personnel & student groups on ongoing basis to discuss, review, revise & implement policies of concern to University on student life & behavior.
Confer with University officials, faculty & campus partners on disciplinary & other issues; provide direction, review & implement responses and policies.
Plan & conduct workshops for various University constituencies (advisors, panel members, Honor Council, TA s, RA s, House Deans, Penn police, faculty chairs, etc.) on Penn s student disciplinary system and Penn s expectations regarding community, behavior, and academic integrity.
Serve on University-wide committees involved in policy formulation & implementation; act as resource for University, providing advice on trends in student discipline/student conduct, academic integrity, sexual harassment etc. in higher education.
Respond to questions & provide advice to faculty, parents, other University staff & external units on operation of disciplinary system, expected outcomes, general philosophy, etc.
Supervise staff, including hire, performance manage, assign work, fire; oversee administration of office including budget; review new regulatory guidelines, etc. with staff; revise & draft documents; provide written updates; review all correspondence generated in office; provide variety of reports as needed.

Qualifications

Masters Degree required.
Doctoral, J.D. or other terminal degree strongly preferred.
5-7 years related experience or equivalent combination of
education & experience required.
Previous experience in student conduct, student crises or related functions.
Previous experience conducting investigations; training and experience in mediation and professional experience in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
Understanding of the concerns and development needs of a diverse University population.
Ability to mediate disputes & resolve conflicts.
Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical & organizational skills.
Strong management skills and previous supervisory experience required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
