The American School in London
The High School Science Teacher will be responsible for teaching various levels of Physics including Advanced Placement Physics 1, Physics 2, and/or Physics C. The teacher may also teach Grade 9 and/or 10 Integrated Science aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The Science department offers a broad and challenging program anchored in developing proficiency in the investigating, sense-making, and critiquing skills that are key to learning science. With an emphasis on hands-on experiences, the science program seeks to have students think and act like scientists, develop a deep understanding of the core concepts in the discipline, and provide students with the knowledge and tools to address complex social and ethical issues. For positions into Senior Management a Prohibition From Management Check (s128 Directive) will also be undertaken. All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.
