Itasca State Park - Visitor Services Section Supervisor

Job Summary Established in 1891, Itasca is the oldest state park in Minnesota and one of the first state parks in the country. Home to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River and towering old growth pine, the park is one of the top tourism attractions in the Upper Midwest. The Itasca Administrative Unit also manages LaSalle State Recreation area and six State Forest Campgrounds. The DNR is currently seeking a creative and motivated Assistant Park Manager for the Visitor Services Section to provide direct supervisory work in areas of extreme complexity in the management of Itasca State Park. This position directs visitor services activities including public contact, emergency services, enforcement, interpretive services, and food services including two restaurants. The position works as part of an administrative team comprised of the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager for Maintenance and Development, and Assistant Park Manager for Visitor Services. The work schedule for this position is typically Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and will require some weekend, holiday, and evening shifts. Responsibilities include:

Minimum Qualifications • Current (ONE YEAR) experience as a Natural Resources Supervisor 4 – Parks. OR • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in natural resources management, parks and recreation, natural science, communications, public relations, business management, political science, public administration, social science, education, interpretation, or closely related degree. AND • THREE YEARS of professional level experience in a natural resources setting, agency or organization; including budget development and fiscal management, work planning and partnership and visitor management experience. AND • THREE YEARS of supervisory experience in a governmental agency, or in a natural resource setting, organization or agency. AND • Conflict resolution skills/experience. Preferred Qualifications • Experience managing complex budgets, setting operational work goals, and managing complex operations. |
