Assistant Professor - Engineering & Environmental Science FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Engineering & Environmental Science (EES) at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The department is interested in an individual with research focus and curricular development abilities related to Off-Shore Wind (OSW) and specifically research areas of electrical power generation, distribution, storage, impact on the environment with an emphasis on wind turbines and the broader areas of physical oceanography and meteorology will be considered. The position is at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 25 th , 2025. The Department of Engineering & Environmental Science has a full-time faculty of 16, supplemented with over 15 part-time faculty members. It offers the Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Engineering Science and the BS in Electrical Engineering (EE) and both degrees are ABET-accredited. The Engineering Science program offers two specializations usually taken in the junior and senior years for students to explore and prepare for particular areas of engineering. Specializations are in Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering (MechE) with another in a cross-disciplinary area of Engineering (perhaps Environmental, Renewable Power Generation/Transmission) currently under consideration. The department also offers BS degrees in Earth & Environmental Science and Earth & Environmental Science 7-12, a minor in Geology, an Associate in Science (AS) in Engineering Science (with EE and MechE specializations) as well as a Masters in Engineering (ME) in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science (MS) in Environmental Science. The PhD program in Environmental Science is administered by and through the CUNY Graduate Center and the PhD programs in EE and Mech-E are administered through the City College of NY (CCNY) with which our department is in close collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses/laboratories in one or more of the areas specified, as well as conduct state-of-the-art research in any one or more of those areas. In addition, he/she is expected to share responsibilities for: advising students, college committees and departmental assignments (which include administrative, supervisory, and other functions). Recent funding to the department in the area of power generation, off-shore wind and green energies has exceeded $2 million dollars. The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 10,000 students. CSI offers a broad range of academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and in several professional areas. The College awards associate's, bachelor's, master's and professional doctorate degrees, and in collaboration with The CUNY Graduate Center, numerous PhD degrees. CSI's internationally recognized faculty passionately engages in scholarly and artistic activities, and together with a strong professional staff, lead students through transformational learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. The College is situated on a 204-acre site, has recently incorporated a residential component, and is currently engaging in capital expansion. It is a hub of intellectual and artistic activity and a community partner and source of economic impact and job creation for the greater Staten Island area. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.
