Controller KDM Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join our team and oversee the company’s financial health and operations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this leadership role is critical in ensuring that KDM Engineering remains financially sound, compliant with all requirements, and well-positioned for continued growth. The Controller will manage the Accounting and Finance Department, maintain completely accurate records of the firm’s transactions, and review financial statements to determine the firm’s financial health and take action accordingly. They will work closely with the executive team and external auditors to maintain financial stability, develop strategic insights, and ensure accurate financial reporting. Key Responsibilities: - Prepare and present accurate financial reports, forecasts, and statements to provide a clear understanding of the company’s financial status.
- Become familiar with our ERP systems, reviewing prior SOP’s and policies and make adjustments for future staff’s procedure adherence
- Coordinate with our external CPA for tax reporting and filings
- Support the team in managing the budgeting process, including preparing operating budgets and monitoring variances.
- Oversee team that handles daily accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing, payroll, month-end close, year-end close.
- Manage the collection of delinquent accounts receivable and maintain oversight of all cash flow and financial transactions.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends in cost efficiency, supporting cost reduction initiatives.
- Supervise accounting and support staff, ensuring team efficiency and adherence to company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all tax planning and regulatory reporting requirements, including GAAP compliance and maintaining financial metrics such as cash flow, accrual P&L, and balance sheets.
- Develop and maintain a firmwide database of financial performance on past projects/clients for profitability analysis.
- Assist in guiding strategic financial decisions and identifying banking and credit opportunities.
- Support in negotiations with financial institutions and external partners regarding credit and banking terms.
- Note: This position may require extended hours or weekend work to meet deadlines, particularly during peak finance seasons.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration (MBA, CPA, or Certified Controller preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Controller or similar financial leadership role, preferably in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) or EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) industries.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and regulatory financial reporting.
- Experience managing the budgeting process and creating financial forecasts.
- Proficient in Unanet (or similar CRM systems), with intermediate to advanced technical accounting skills.
- Ability to conduct audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Demonstrated experience in tax planning and compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strong financial reporting and cash flow management experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, demonstrating integrity and ethical decision-making.
