This is a career-track position with a primary focus on teaching a structure related courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Career-track assistant professors are expected to engage in research and service activities in addition to their teaching responsibilities, with these duties aligned with the scope of their appointment. This includes conducting research in their field, contributing to academic publications, collaborating on projects, and participating in departmental and university service roles, such as committee membership, student mentorship, and community engagement initiatives. The candidate is also expected to participate broadly in the growth and continuous improvement of the school's ABET-accredited BSCE degree program. Applications are encouraged from recent Ph.D. graduates, as well as doctoral students scheduled to graduate by August 2025, who have a strong enthusiasm for teaching and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment. Ideal candidates will demonstrate potential for high-quality research, excellence in teaching, and a willingness to contribute meaningfully to the academic community. ENVIRONMENT The new faculty member will join the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS), an integral unit within the university's Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. Among WSU's newest academic units, SEAS offers degree programs in computer science, cybersecurity, and civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering at the Baccalaureate, Master's, and Doctoral levels, and encourages interdisciplinary initiatives. All undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET. The School currently has 344 students and expects continued enrollment increases. SEAS produces profession-ready graduates by combining excellence in classroom coursework with project-based experiential learning in the form of laboratory experiences, industry-sponsored projects, paid internships and co-ops, and participation in research with their professors. SEAS actively collaborates with the nearby Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a world-class Department of Energy research enterprise that advances the frontiers of science and engineering and offers numerous internship and project opportunities to our students. WSU's Tri-Cities campus is located in Richland, WA on the west banks of the majestic Columbia River. Together with Richland, the cities of Kennewick and Pasco make up the Tri-Cities, Washington. The campus draws from a regional population of approximately 260,000, and is expanding its reach both nationally and internationally, also benefiting from a newly renovated airport. The growing campus has approximately 1,600 students who are served by nearly 90 full-time and 250 adjunct faculty members, many of whom are full-time researchers and scientists at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and local science and engineering firms. The WSU Tri-Cities campus is experiencing continued growth and development. Legislative support, tremendous community leadership and backing, and partnerships with businesses and community organizations have resulted in exciting new and expanded initiatives in dynamic student engagement, research, and community collaborations. The latest WSU Tri-Cities initiative is the establishment of the Institute for Northwest Energy Futures (INEF) in Richland, to tackle the complex multi-stakeholder transition to clean energy sources.
