Job Summary: Westchester Medical Center, a quaternary regional academic medical center in Valhalla, NY, 30 minutes north of New York City, seeks an academic attending physician in Pediatric Ophthalmology to join our expanding faculty. Westchester Medical Center is the flagship of the 10-hospital Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). The 600-bed medical center is the primary teaching affiliate for New York Medical College and serves as a regional referral and trauma center. There is a 250 bed pediatric hospital and a 60 bed NICU, along with a group of several hundred pediatric subspecialty providers in areas ranging from Neurosurgery, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Pediatric Hospitalists, Pediatric Surgery, and a large pediatric residency program. This dynamic faculty member will join the Department of Ophthalmology, which currently has eleven faculty members representing most specialties of ophthalmology. This is an established academic and community practice with a mission to provide education and teaching opportunities to Ophthalmology residents, as well as New York Medical College students.The Department has a newly constructed surgical suite including a 3-D intraoperative visualization system and the newest technology in surgical and imaging equipment. The Pediatric Ophthalmology practice is still in its developing stages, and the incoming provider will have significant input into its shape and focus. The faculty member will evaluate and treat secondary and tertiary pediatric eye care patients, perform surgery, and see pediatric inpatient consultations. They will also staffing the resident pediatric eye clinic, which offers care for an underserved population, and supervise resident strabismus surgery. Complex surgical cases can easily be done with other faculty members, for example pediatric glaucoma with the adult glaucoma specialist, and pediatric oculoplastic cases with the adult oculoplastic and orbit surgeon. Full participation in all academic functions including Grand Rounds, journal clubs, CME activities, and meetings is required. Qualifications / Requirements: The successful candidate will obtain a faculty appointment at New York Medical College.Research opportunities exist and their development will be encouraged. Applicants should have completed an Ophthalmology residency, with fellowship training welcome but not required, and be eligible to obtain a New York State license. The successful candidate should have excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills and be committed to patient care, medical education, and scholarly activities to further advance the mission of the center in providing state-of-the-art comprehensive care. The ideal candidate should have academic experience and is expected to participate in program-building activities.
