Assistant Professor of Practice

The College of Business at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position to lead the new Introduction to Business course (MNGT 101). This dynamic and innovative course introduces students to the core disciplines of business through storytelling, interactive simulations, and real-world problem-solving, fostering early engagement with the business world.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach four large lecture sections of MNGT 101 annually (three in the fall, one in the spring).
• Collaborate with faculty in Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics, Marketing, and Supply Chain to refine and implement the MNGT 101 curriculum.
• Develop and oversee engaging lecture content and activities.
• Design materials and activities for recitation sections led by upper-level student learning assistants.
• Mentor and guide learning assistants to deliver high-quality recitation sessions.
• Lead the implementation of the Business Battle, an end-of-semester project, including corporate engagement and student coaching activities.
• Participate in ongoing discussions and initiatives to support community-building efforts across the first-year experience.

Required Qualifications

• A master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, or professional practice across multiple business disciplines.
• Demonstrated interest in or prior experience with innovative teaching methods, such as case-based learning, storytelling, or hands-on activities, with a focus on enhancing student engagement.
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills with a commitment to fostering student success.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. or DBA in a business-related discipline.
• Prior experience in leading large lecture courses and/or working with learning assistants.
• Proven ability to build partnerships with corporate stakeholders for student development activities.
• Understanding of and an interest in creating an inclusive and dynamic learning environment.

About the Course (MNGT 101)
MNGT 101 is a foundational course designed to provide students with an overview of the core business disciplines—Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Management. Students will engage with real-world business problems through simulations, interactive discussions, and the Business Battle, a collaborative project with mentorship from business professionals. This course aims to inspire students to explore business education while building critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
