***This position will be posted until 2/7/2025***Job DescriptionThis position performs semi-professional accounting work within the business services office under limited supervision. Responsible for the initial interpretation, compliance review, organization, distribution, and timely processing for all State Treasury, auxiliary, student life and student club account expenditures. Serves as primary contact for purchasing card procedures and responsible for processing purchasing card transactions according to established procedures.This position provides technical fiscal advice; interprets and explains State of Minnesota, Minnesota State College and Universities (MinnState), and LSC mandated rules, regulations and accounting procedures to personnel. Responsible for recognizing errors or problems in fiscal transactions and recommending alternative solutions for consideration by other staff; ensures expenditures comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations and exercises corrective actions as appropriate. The position has responsibility for identifying Minnesota Statute 16A.15 violations and will take actions regarding violations in a confidential manner.Independently validates bi-weekly employee payroll for accuracy and completeness; provides internal control for work completed by payroll technician. Serves as back-up to another business service position as assigned, which is currently the accounting technician-payroll. Completes payroll duties of the payroll technician position when required.This position must be able to communicate and instruct the college community on the proper procedures for areas of responsibility. This position will perform additional duties as assigned by Vice President of Administration and Director of Business Services.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.Knowledge of the Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT), Workday or other private or governmental accounting systems, sufficient to query and compile records and reports.Ability to interpret accounts payable, purchasing card, and employee expense report polices/procedures used in colleges, state entities or other businesses to ensure transactions are accountable and in compliance prior to issuing payment.Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets and mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts. Ability to design and explain work procedures and operations and advise staff members and outside vendors on fiscal policies and procedures. Knowledge and experience directly related to accounts payable and encumbrance rules, regulations and best practices.Preferred QualificationDemonstrated ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.Experience with the MinnState (ISRS) accounting system; Workday, SCUPPS and SEMA4 for payroll/business expense processing.Associate?s or bachelor?s degree in business or accountingThree or more years? experience in accounts payableExperience administering and controlling a Purchasing Card programWork Shift Monday - Friday8:00 am - 4:30 pmTelework Hybrid options available upon successful completion of probationary periodAboutLake Superior College is an Equal Opportunity employer and educator deeply committed to fostering the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
