Title: Assistant Professor - Engineering Unit: MCCC Full-Time Day Faculty Department: Academic Affairs - STEM Reports to: Dean of STEM Date: September 29, 2023 (Reopened January 30, 2025) General Summary: The Engineering Faculty member is a creative, flexible, learning-centered, and knowledgeable individual who will develop and teach engineering and computer-aided design (CAD) courses within the STEM division. The faculty member will have experience with engineering disciplines, CAD, and/or robotics and will work with the Dean of STEM and other faculty to maintain and enhance the engineering and CAD program. The faculty member will assist with the development of student learning outcomes and assessment strategies and will participate in college service and student advisement. The faculty member is committed to inclusive excellence, diversity, and continuous professional improvement. Duties and Responsibilities: - Develop and teach courses in Engineering and CAD, including, but not limited to, introductory to engineering, DC/AC circuit theory, material balances, introduction to digital logic, PCB layout, medical instrumentation, SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, PCB software, 3D printing, dynamics, statics, strength of Materials.
- Participate in ongoing curriculum review, assessment, and development
- Develop instructional material consistent with course, program and institutional student learning outcomes
- Develop and apply instructional methods that engage a diverse student body of varying learning styles and abilities, and promote critical thinking and other employability skills
- Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and effectively measure student learning outcomes
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to recruit and retain students and assist in community and industry outreach
- Supplement instruction with new classroom technologies
- Embrace the dynamic nature of engineering and engineering technology, remain current with industry trends and needs, and incorporate that knowledge into the curriculum
- Utilize high impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, undergraduate research, service learning and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
- Support and foster a culture of civic learning and community engagement.
- Participate in division and college committees and activities on all MCC campuses
- Provide student advising
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Master's Degree in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering or a closely related field, or Bachelor's Degree in related field with equivalent industry experience.
- Proficiency in three or more of the following areas: Mechanical Design, structural design, DC/AC circuits, digital logic, PCB design and layout, SolidWorks, AutoCAD (2D and 3D), and Revit.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Engineer, Civil Engineer, or Electrical Engineer.
- Successful teaching or training experience, preferably at the post-secondary level.
- Commitment to integrate real-life applications with electrical design and engineering, and to include employability skills into the curriculum.
- Commitment to continuous professional improvement.
- Ability to apply innovative instructional approaches, in order to achieve stated course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty from different disciplines and different academic institutions.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience developing academic programs, courses and curriculum.
- Successful teaching at a community college.
- Experience with a variety of instructional methods, and willingness to develop and implement online courses.
- Student advising experience.
- Experience using high impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, undergraduate research, service learning and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, and learning communities.
- Bilingual skills.

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary Range: $75,232 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC 2025 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor, actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
