- Develops systems to ensure scheduling, training, supervising and evaluation of all personnel assigned to department.
- Supervises planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
- Assists General Manager in developing annual budget and capital plan for department; takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
- Works to meet or exceed established Golf Course Maintenance budgetary expense guidelines.
- Demonstrates positive leadership characteristics that empower and inspire employees to meet and exceed standards, while being a role model for the values of Columbia Hospitality.
- Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
- Communicates as necessary with departmental heads to discuss conditions of facilities, maintenance plans and scheduled events.
- Plans professional development and training activities for team members.
The Nitty Gritty - 2 - 4-year Degree in Horticulture or Turf Management Preferred
- Minimum of five year’s golf course experience with golf courses, preferably with northern grasses
- Must have or possesses a valid pesticide license in the turf or ornamental category
- Experience with construction and maintenance of golf course greens, tees and fairways; the preparation and maintenance of an irrigation system including pumping stations and controls
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations. Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
- Computer literacy is required to perform functions of the job
- Working knowledge of Toro SitePro irrigation system preferred
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Member in good standing with the GCSAA preferred
