DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Originally founded in 1997, Baskin Engineering (BE) is the first professional school at UC Santa Cruz. Over the past 25 years, Baskin Engineering has become a unique 21st century school of engineering and technology, characterized by evolutionary growth fueled by ongoing research opportunities that open new areas of intellectual inquiry. Baskin Engineering has grown to include six academic departments, a variety of research centers and institutes, and has ambitious plans for further programmatic growth. The focus of Baskin Engineering educational programming is to instill strong basic knowledge for sound practice in science and ethical engineering for the well-being of society, and its diverse curricula facilitate creative thinking and prepare students for productive and rewarding careers. Baskin Engineering is focused on building collaborative connections and expanding instruction and research activities for faculty and students at UC Santa Cruz, both at its Santa Cruz campus and at its campus in Silicon Valley, the international center of technological innovation.

Instructional Support Services (ISS) is a unit within BE which coordinates and manages the delivery of BE undergraduate and graduate academic programs, both on campus and off. ISS operates within the centralized BE Department Service Center, providing essential analytical support, while directing a wide variety of instructionally related administrative functions for all BE academic departments and programs. ISS is composed of Curriculum Analysts, Instructional Support Coordinators, and various student employee support roles.

JOB SUMMARY

With general direction from the Baskin School of Engineering (BE) Instructional Support Supervisor, and in support of BE Department Manager and Chairs, the Curriculum and Instruction Support Analyst is a member of Instructional Support Services (ISS), responsible for coordinating and managing the delivery of BE undergraduate and graduate instructional programs at central campus and beyond. This position operates within the centralized BE Department Service Center, providing essential analytical support, while assisting in a wide variety of instructionally related administrative functions for select BE academic departments/programs. These functions include, but are not limited to: course scheduling and sequencing, faculty support, enrollment management, supporting curriculum and catalog revisions, managing space, coordinating exams with accommodation, and general administrative support. The Curriculum and Instructional Support Analyst works both independently and cooperatively as a member of ISS, interacting regularly with faculty and staff both within BE and across campus. The incumbent applies learned knowledge of program requirements to help mount curriculum for respective departments in support of students timely earning B.A., B.S., and graduate degrees.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $30.22 - $34.67/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

50% - BE Curriculum Management

Course Scheduling
Acquires knowledge of department requirements and campus policy to coordinate the schedule of classes and associated secondary sections for selected departments and academic programs in BE.
Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling problems, taking into account the curriculum needs of students, the needs of faculty, and available options.
Performs enrollment management across assigned departments, analyzing arising problems, and determining solutions.
Mechanically sets up classes for student enrollment using knowledge of AIS enrollment system.
Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on enrollment trends to academic department.
Acts as contact for assigned departments in management and advising for enrollment management (AIS, permission codes, wait lists).
Facilitates BE Instructional Support Orientation for incoming faculty, ensuring that new instructors understand what their divisional resources are.
Coordinates secondary sections and laboratories to correspond with needs of primary courses based on analysis of projected enrollments.
Maintains complex records of scheduling restrictions for all departments and programs to ensure course sections are set according to requirements of course and instructor.
Anticipates and/or resolves conflicts as they arise, facilitates discussions as needed, represents the departments at campus wide meetings, and serves as liaison to the Registrar's Office, and to the BE Undergraduate and Graduate Advising Offices.
Coordinates with the campus Registrar's Office to ensure adequate and appropriate classroom space and room reassignments based on course needs and historical enrollment information, and devises solutions to classroom and scheduling issues.
Develops schedule for assigned lecture and distance learning courses, and serves as liaison with ITS Learning Technologies Services, Baskin Engineering Lab Support, and Silicon Valley Center to accomplish such.
Assists in creation and implementation of training materials as related to curriculum and enrollment management.

25% - Curriculum Analyst

Implements curriculum development quality and service standards.
Exercises knowledge in facilitating all new and revised course approval requests and related paperwork for selected departments.
Reviews course approvals, ensuring submissions adhere to relevant policies and align with AIS guidelines.
Responsible for maintaining department course submission information, as well as facilitating and routing of course approval materials through the campus Curriculum Approval Tracking (CAT) system.
Participates in the annual revision and submission of catalog copies, and ongoing updates for all departments and programs within BE, adhering to CEP, Graduate Council and Registrar policies and best practices.
Using working knowledge of course approval submission and tracking, facilitates new course approvals and curriculum revisions according to Academic Senate policy.

20% - Instructional Support Analyst

Assists Instructional Support Coordinator with Disability Resource Center (DRC) analyses and planning as it pertains to BE testing.
Assists in process documentation for DRC.
Assists in creation and implementation of training materials and documentation as related to unit support and processes.

5% - Instructionall Support Services Member

Acts as a member of ISS in Baskin Engineering Department Service Center providing services for walk-in faculty/staff/students needing assistance.
Serves as backup for ISS Team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
Knowledge of department and school / college general and major course requirements.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The selected candidate will be required to work a hybrid work schedule and must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
